Totally stupid question probably but when my ipad3 battery gets down to about 5% i put it on charge, if i charge it in work it can be up to about 85% within 5 hrs but if i charge next to the bed at home it can take 12 hrs or so just to get to the same charge. Is it possible to have stronger lecky?;)

I might frivolously suggest that the iPhone somehow knows that you are abstracting free electricity from work, so it has to charge up quickly before someone notices, whereas at home you are paying for the electricity, so it doesn't matter how long it takes to recharge!
I can't think of a good reason, other than perhaps at work the mains voltage might be closer to the higher end of the allowed range (say 240V), whereas at home it might be lower (say 220V). But that should make only a minimal difference.0 -
The charger plug converts it to USB, so it should be the same.
I suppose that it is possible that different chargers have different outputs.0 -

Hi PaddedJohn,
I found this article that could be useful:
gizmodo.com/5535631/the-fastest-and-slowest-way-to-charge-an-ipad
It would appear that not all chargers are the same.
Also, I know that it is possible to have a "clean" energy supply or a "dirty" one. A normal supply would be somewhere between the two. A clean one takes special equipment to create but many offices do this as there are claims it lengthens the life of the electrical items added to it. I would imagine that the power adapter for your iPad would have to do less work on a clean supply and therefore be able to charge quicker.0 -
I wonder if this might be caused by changes in the supply voltage overnight, rather than the location? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

it's the difference between broadband/digital leccy and dial up/analogue leccy. :rotfl:
sorry it's something i tease our 'lectrican.

quick question - is your i-thing 'doing stuff' when it's at home. i.e. I assume it knows your interweb connection code (sorry I'm not technical at all), is it doing updating or running something in the background? whereas at work it can't connect to the interweb (I'm assuming as we couldn't at my work) so therefore ALL it's doing is charging up whereas at home it's multitasking.

Maybe it's because the plug in work is on the ground floor, obviously the electric that travels to my bedroom has to climb up the wires to get the the socket so would lose some of its power whereas the electric in work won't be as tiredBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Thats why you should use a local supplier for your electricity, less distance to travel so more volts for you.:DThat gum you like is coming back in style.0

If your bedside socket is at the end of a long and old wire it is possible that some power is lost between it and the mains. It would be interesting to try charging plugged in to a socket that's near where the mains comes into your house, or your kettle socket which should have a "bigger" wire to it from the mains, and compare the charging times.0

Are you using the right kind of cable grease so the electrons can flow properly? Perhaps at work they use a silicone based cable grease which is costlier but doesn't get sticky like domestic cable grease?0
