They can't afford to pay any council tax on JSA, its not enough to live on as it is.

And yet millions of people do.

£111 for a couple. Not sure what extras would have to go!

Eat or pay Council tax...I think I'll carry on eating!

Many people on JSA run a car, smoke, have Sky, go out occasionally or buy clothes. Those are the extras I mean.

This doesn't surprise me, this will cause even more hardship to people struggling to live on low incomes especially single parents trying to bring up children:(

We have petrol prices that are ridiculous, morgages for young people are impossible to get let alone pay for.

The uni fees have doubled making it harder for students.

I'm not sure what else the government can take away, it seems the poor are being made poorer and the rich richer?

Can you please supply your evidence for this statement. Would also be helpful if you could supply some contact details so that those of us who cannot afford these extras can talk to them and find out what we are doing wrong

I think you will find that single people bringing up children are well cared for financially. Certainly far better off than a single jobless person without children. Which is perhaps part of the reason why so many young women choose this path.

Most over 25s on £71 per week have enough left after essentials for some form of "extras". If these changes are introduced than it'll have to be the extras that go.

Councils usually have quite a lot to spend on extras those can go first.

The trouble is that your typical council is likely to say that all that spending on 'extras' went years ago. In any case, by the looks of things, councils appear to have decided to keep things simple as far as their proposed council tax support schemes are concerned; they're going to limit it to 75%-85% of the council tax bill. So if you're of working age, you're likely going to have to pay at least part of your CT bill no matter what.

I think it has always been wrong to provide completely free housing and no council tax to pay. Everyone should pay something for the roof over their head and the local facilities, schools, libraries, rubbish collection etc.

I'm assuming you mean single parents on benefits rather than single working mothers because as a full time working single mother I have less spending money than my ex who doesnt work and says that a £700 a month job is worse for him than JSA as his £71 per week is spending money:eek:

I guess people on benefits will just have to start doing the same as the working population and live within their means. I have to pay council tax and dont get any benefits other than my 25% single occupancy discount. I have two boys and would love a bigger house but as I can't afford it I stick with what I need!
