Oh please, we all have our sad stories. Struggled for six months over 20 years ago, poor you.
That the best you can do? like I said, I feel sorry for you.0 -

Please don't feel sorry for me. I am enjoying reading the posts from the middle class wifey who genuinely believes that eating porridge one year for Christmas dinner instead of her traditional goose gives her insight into the plight of the masses in this country.
As they would say in suburbia...tres amusant0 -
But if the rent becomes subject to a top-up and the council tax support only covers 75%, something has to give.
So do you not pay the rent, or not pay the council tax, or not put money in the electricity meter? Or not eat every day?
Most over 25s on £71 per week have enough left after essentials for some form of "extras". If these changes are introduced than it'll have to be the extras that go.0 -
Eat or pay council tax....Hmm choices choices lol. Thats not a realistic choice lol. I agree with a previous poster just refuse to pay or do some form of crime that is going to land you with a prison sentence. Prison still equals 3 square meals a day. Access to free education (depending on length of sentence) and free access to fitness facilities. In fact I know of someone who did just over 1 year in prison for a drugs offence and when he came out he got given a flat by the council and also had access to various grants to help further his business (He was actually a tiler by trade before getting caught with 300 ecstasy tablets in his car). For someone without a family to look after it is becoming a "real" choice.
Im really not joking either. Lets say you find you cant feed yourself so you go on a shoplifting spree - You either have a trolley full of food and goodies OR end up in the clink.
Now dont get me wrong im not advocating crime but if people feel pressured and backed into a corner then I think society may well feel a backlash that they were not anticipating.0 -

Its easy to say NMW should be higher but then the cost of everything we buy would go up.There are thousands of small businesses who employ people on NMW and are on the edge of going bankrupt, its a vicious circle.
The cost of living is already too high and we really don't need it getting any higher.
FWIW I think we need the housing market bubble to burst.House prices and rents falling so that wages go further.0 -

Why is the big debate about eating or paying Council Tax? The authority I work for haven't made a decision on who will qualify for what. I'd suspect that people on JSA will more than likely still have no CTax to pay but as I say no decision made yet.0

They can't afford to pay any council tax on JSA, its not enough to live on as it is.0 -

Its always a mistake to make rash judgments about someone who you don't know,
but I tell you, you all on here lived better than we did back then.
So, be careful before you make rash statements like the one you made, you were wrong.
Such contradictions.
You have no idea of the poverty of some on here, so get off your high horse!
Telling people not to make rash assumptions then deciding you are the poorest of all.....excellent way to discredit yourself!0
