    Evening

I really appreciate what you mean about being pleased for another but feeling such a void that it hadn't happen to you. I get that feeling when I see mothers and daughters together.

I also understand not posting when the black dogs around, so difficult to share but please press submit next time we do understand.

So glad you're up to posting again, I/we've missed you. So happy to hear you've got company for the moment, which will be good for your soul as well as your diet, plus brought great strides on the manual work.

Re the turmeric: is it organic turmeric you are after? Is it available online - if so, perhaps one of the Divos could order it for you?

Poor CD, his pride was wounded, no-one (animal or human) wants to spoil their own nest. Glad the turmeric is available again, and works for him.

My DH was bitten by the black dog again yesterday. Meditation and walking helps enormously, although he doesn't have ME to contend with. Hugs for you.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Hello! Poor CD it's hell when your body lets you down. Doglet has similar. As I said I found turmeric with him and my horses of years past to be very good, but probably due to wet weather predominant in the UK.

Please don't beat yourself over may be and what if. You are fantastic and we can cope with others upset much more than our own ...... Love and hugs

Glad to see you and CD back Robin and hopefully both on the mend. You should still post even when you're feeling down, we'll listen, that's what we're here for.

Hello m'dear, pleased to hear from you but sorry to hear you've had that oh so unwelcome visitor. I agree with BM though, please post when it visits as often just writing it down helps and we want to be here to help you in your hour of need too.

Poor CD, I'm glad she's finally recovered from her upset, it's a sign of just how clever she is that she felt so contrite for so long.

Glad Divo 3 is visiting as I'm sure that'll help keep the other visitor away x

I also totally understand the jealousy, I'm like that if I see twins, especially babies, I just can't help thinking why!!!

Lots of love and happy thoughts for you and ear tickles & belly rubs for CD

Hello Diary and Dear MSEers, :hello:

Thank-you so much for your kind words, Dansmam, Bubbles and Satchmo. :T

Dansmam - please, you are very welcome to join in at the Nest; all comments, suggestions and opinions gratefully received! Imho one of the best things about t'interweb is that it gives us all access to ideas which might never have occurred to the individual.. Can be life-changing in the best of ways. :)
Am amazed that you've managed to plough through a hundred pages of Flying Solo history / waffle - that really is impressive! :T

You think I've done a lot since beginning m' diary? From this end it feels frustrating that progress in all areas is so slow.. :o
Lack of Vit.D not likely to be a reason for Black Dog's presence, because although winter in the mountains here can be wild and freezing, usually blue skies and sunshine return* when the storm clouds have blown away. :)
    * Definitely therapeutic.

Bubbles - ah, mums and daughters; yes there's another subject to cause heart-pangs. Guess we all have something which we'd wish had happened differently in our lives.. :o

You really wouldn't want to read the drivel that comes out when Black Dog is in charge. Far too much self-pitying angst - a guaranteed downer. :(

Satchmo - aww, thank you for noticing I wasn't posting.
Yes, am very glad to see Divo Three safely back from his African Adventure (he has a knack of removing himself from locations where trouble is brewing, just before it happens - Cairo is a good recent example; bombs the day after he left - really should trust his Guardian Angel, she's doing a great job so far!).
Dear boy apparently feels he owes me loads of money - don't agree, the extra course fees were a gift and his 'emergency float' is almost intact - but until he goes back to work next term, this imagined obligation is making him keen to be useful. Great for me - not going to refuse help with physical tasks, lol.

Satchmo, I forgot to order turmeric before DS4 visited - m' favourite supplier won't deliver here, alas. Divo Three brought me some from Istanbul (but thought I'd made a mistake typing quantity desired, so only bought a tenth of what was wanted! :rotfl:).
From now on, selected visitors will be asked whether their address can be used for an order which they'd bring over with them (better than just asking guests to find some turmeric themselves, because quality varies so much and it's pricey when buying organic in quantity - not fair to ask folk to pay up front).

CD has already got used to the fact that we have GP in stock again; three times a day she makes it quite plain she wants her ham-wrapped pill, now please. Found ready-sliced catering packs of ham in MrL - a couple last CD a month, which has chopped over a tenner off the food bill (compared to buying local mountain-cured jamon for her :o).

Had a glitch while out shopping which has revealed another MSE trick: Butcher had run out of chicken wings, so suggested whole birds instead? Agreed very reluctantly, thinking about effort required to divide 'em into CD-sized portions - meat cleaver signals ME muscle pain later - not to mention freezer space required..
No choice really, had already run out of supplies for CD, so for £8 I lugged home a bag containing three chunky open-shed* local-bred birds. From which resulted no less than thirty six meals for CD, two spare breasts and enough chicken stock for about four cauldrons of soup!
Much, much cheaper - and better meat to bone ratio without carcasses - than buying wings (get about eighteen portions for same cost). :D
Freezer has never, ever been so efficiently, completely jammed full! :rotfl:
    * This is the closest any sensible farmer here gets to free range. It's like a huge barn open to the sky at one end. Anyone letting chickens out in a field knows their life expectancy can probably be measured in hours, because there are so many predators.

Sorry to read your DH has been slogging through the mire again too Satchmo - does seem to be prevalent at this time of year as Dansmam says.
Found this recently, which I found most encouraging; might be of interest to your DH too:

Oh look - more welcome visitors have stopped by the Nest in the time it's taken Slowcoach to get this far.
    Hello everyone! :hello:
Reckon this post is long enough though - haven't yet got around to telling you about m' CC conundrum - so best to start again. ;)

Hello again Diary, Missrlr, Sun.A, Chev, Mara and Granny :hello:

Gosh, so many lovely visitors - have I been awarded an extra birthday? :D
Thank you very much for popping into the Nest, everyone. :T

Hello Missrlr, thanks for posting - aah, poor Doglet. Might be worth persevering with GP for him?
CD hasn't had any more accidents since starting her on it again, and she already looks more limber - jumps rather than climbs slowly onto chair, etc.
Not sure wet UK weather is significant - there are countless users across Asia and Australia..?

Sun.A - Hiya, thank you! :hello:
Hmm, hard to explain why posts inevitably tail off during Black Dog days. It is difficult to string a sentence together when struggling through mire at the bottom of the pit, but also nobody likes a moaner - maybe am sensitive to that because am labouring beneath one of the 'invisible' conditions which some people still interpret as nothing more than laziness?

Hi Chev yes please do - GP is such a useful super-food it's well worth reading up on. Sun.A and Lucky might also find it of interest - antioxidant and anti-seizure effects are pretty well documented. ;)
Word of warning though; GP enhances certain allopathic meds so should be discussed with relevant consultant before starting to build up a therapeutic dose. Regular monitoring is important, allowing reduction of prescription drugs if / when necessary.

Many people discover 'alternatives' like GP because Big Pharma drugs have unpleasant side-effects or don't quite do what is hoped for - it is worth looking further afield to improve quality of life. :)
Personally, have had much better results than consultants expected by combining traditional and alternative wisdom with that dispensed by allopathic doctors. Need to find a sympathetic / open-minded Doc of course, which can be a challenge.
El Medico is one such; happy to let me try and reduce m' cholesterol levels without him prescribing statins, after we'd had a chat about 'natural' aids including GP - will soon be time for more blood tests to check on progress.. Am optimistic (I think! :p).

Oh very good Mara! :D :rotfl: :T

Granny - thank you for taking time out of your Antipodean Adventure to call in at the Nest, much appreciated because am certain you've got lots of more exciting things you could be doing! :T
You're right, having Divo Three here is already making a difference to yours truly - more on him below.

But.. Umm, think you used the wrong word:

Surely it's more pathos than jealousy?
Can honestly say I don't begrudge anyone their healthy daughters or living partner, and don't believe you would either.. :happyhear
One thing though; I found m'self following the progress of friends' children - girls who were born closest to my two who didn't come home from hospital (memories of all the early miscarriages have faded - don't remember the dates or think of those with heartfelt pangs any more). No idea whether either girl ever wondered why her birthday gift was more generous than expected, or she got more attention than others amongst the tribe of mates' kids. Rarely see these young women now because they are living their adult lives, but we sometimes chat on Faceache - it really does help to see how well they're both doing. :)

Satchmo - thinking of you and DH, hoping he is finding his way out of the pit and Black Dog has stopped howling in his ear. (((Hugs))) to you, it must be so difficult helping him to cope..

During m' last trip into town, had begun to wonder whether van's brakes have started binding again?
Wanted a second opinion so Divo Three drove us to the inspection centre. At first he didn't think anything was amiss, but just after getting onto the motorway a truck hooted, he looked in the mirror and started yelling:
"Smoke! Smoke!" ..Pulled over tout suite, deposited CD behind the crash barrier and grabbed an extinguisher - but couldn't find smoke, flames or any reason for same - just the rear hubs felt a bit warm?
On reflection DS3 wondered whether the lorry-driver was just p**d off because he wasn't going fast enough, and the mirror was a bit dusty?
Continued, me driving; no problem except a nagging feeling that the engine was working a bit harder than usual. Van sailed through the test without even any minor flaws being mentioned in the report.
 Which leaves me with rather less confidence in the system than I had before - it ought to have failed!
On the way home we stopped at the garage where DS3's mates work. After lots of bonhomie hugs between the lads who'd not seen each other for a few months, Boss said I was right - rear brakes are sticking again. Preferable to get it sorted rather than wait until the braking surface has completely worn out, so ordered parts and van is booked in next week.

Divo Three carried all m' shopping indoors then borrowed van, on condition that until it's been fixed, it will only be used locally, carefully, not driven at speed, yadda yadda etc.
Yeah, it's a risk. Any bets on how long before something goes wrong? ..That's Mother Love when they're all growed up! :rotfl:

    Spends:
    Van - £45
Supermarket - £60 (inc 'welcome pack' supplies for DH's cottages).
    Internet shopping - £25
Postage fun parcel for DGD / stamps - £7

 House / Landlord Insurance came up for renewal. Decided to do a comparison search, which resulted in a flurry of 'phone-calls from hopeful agents. Luckily had m' notes of cover required to hand, so was able to ask the woman with the cheapest quote to go through her policy clauses. Just as well because several categories were not covered.
Isn't that mean? Her policy looked cheaper, but was not what I had specified. She put the 'phone down on me when asked why she was misrepresenting an inferior product as suitable, given that she already knew it did not fit my requirements?
Another quote from Red Telephone people - whose adverts scream we will not be beaten on price! ..Very tempting to challenge 'em to reduce their cost by 48% to match the second cheapest premium asked by the NLA, but decided I like NLA better than DL anyway, so renewed; £310 for comprehensive cover on both UK properties is a good deal. Isn't it?

It's taken days to write this post. Am trying hard to drink enough water, take all m' pills and pace increasing activity again, although haven't achieved much in practical tasks thus far. It's Saturday so the washing up awaits, should also change bedding and - with trepidation - see if the washing machine will co-operate again..
Accountant is nudging me, wants '14 - '15 figures in April - oh and I still haven't used the current year's ISA. Looking at MSE savings board, none of the pundits appear to think the interest is worth it? So any suggestions gratefully received.. :o
  • Hi Robin, I'm glad to see in my absence that CD is doing better than when I was last around :)
I also think you should come and post on black dog days, it really helps to vent sometimes. I expect my diary is littered with posts that seem miserable & self absorbed but i feel better afterwards and usually i'm not like that (promise ;) ) xx
