'Morning Diary,
Fell asleep with the CH on last night - what a numpty! Very un-MSE and unhealthy; the place is tropical this morning but I'm still shivering, have definitely caught a bug.
Curses.Definitely escalate your PPI claim with FO now
So is it usual for that bank to reject claims put in to them directly? I wouldn't be surprised..
In a way I'll be sorry to abandon them - have had my current a/c with them since Dad took me in to open it - have been buying money off 'em all my adult life, lol.0 -

There is nothing in staying loyal with a bank - we both had accounts that where over 30 years old but it means nothing to the sixth former you deal with these days who has to meet sales targets and quite frankly thinks 30 years is more a than a life time. I did have one sixth former actually say to me once I looked good for my age and when I told her my age (and she had me down for about 20 years older) she wouldn't believe me that I had had a bank account from being about 12...............shortly after we got our PPI money and removed all our 'loyalty' elsewhereBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Yes I take your point, Igamogam; that bank no longer deserve my loyalty - they are too big now anyway - I do not like being only a number.
Just had a look at my accounts, actually. The loan a/c with it's interesting positive balance has disappeared, and my CC with them also appears to be in credit, though not by much. I changed the SOs going into the 0% CCs so they're just above the minimum payments. Amusing to note that every card, even the ones with a zero balance, has had it's limit increased! None of them asked me if I wanted this done; it's somewhat ironic that now I've decided to do away with my debts they're all falling over themselves to lend me money - I could take out over £40K if I wanted to! (I won't!).
Am still working up to opening an account with FD; not quite sure how much I can spare to start it off (but need the details before I can pay in a bequest that's heading this way).NewLeaf wrote:Morning Robin. How is your cold?
Much better, NewLeaf, thanks for asking. The echinacea is doing it's work - though I had to unpack two boxes to find my spare bottle this morning as I'd done in the other one; hopefully last night was the worst of it - fell asleep shivering with the CH turned up high which was not clever.
How are you getting on Stateside? No meetings at the weekend I hope, and not too much temptation to go shopping?
Aww.. am listening to the radio as one of my offspring is on; he just dedicated a record to me - bless him!
ETA - now am in tears; he dedicated the last track of his show to DH. Not a tune I'm familiar with, but I love it.0 -

Lol. Well there's only one of me [many folk would say 'thank goodness!'], and I don't think filleting fish can be regarded as a talent; a knack perhaps. And I did say I wasn't very good at it.
I suppose that kind of knowledge is being lost except among specialists, these days. Which is a bit of a shame.
Grandpa was a keen sportsman, in the days when that meant hunting, shooting & fishing (although his preference was for race-horses rather than chasing foxes - much to Grandma's annoyance as he wasn't as good at betting as he was at shooting or fishing). He taught all his grand-kids how to deal with game, and I must say that although I never shared his passion for fishing, I was happy to join him. I sketched or wrote poetry quietly while he spent as long as it took, patiently casting, and then we'd clean and fry up his catch on a tiny field cooker that was part of the kit we'd lugged from his car.
If you've not tasted fish that was swimming ten minutes before it's speared on a fork then you've no idea how delicious it tastes.. Ah, memories; I wonder what my grandchildren would say if I suggested we spend a morning fishing then cooking our catch for lunch? :rotfl:0 -
Good Morning Diary and MSE friends,
I've been thinking about how much the world has changed since the young Robin packed her satchel and set off with Grandpa on one of the trips he loved to take after he retired.
What sort of memorable adventures can I conjure up for my own grandchildren? Christmas is rushing towards us but I have no ideas for gifts or treats - which must be MSE due to my still precarious financial position. The two eldest step-grand-daughters are the most difficult to please; they've grown up thinking material possessions are important, and spend hours turning themselves into carbon copies of the other million giggling teenage girls in the UK. I really have no idea what I can do with/for them that they would appreciate and hopefully give them ideas/skills to help them cope as they prepare for adulthood.
The younger ones are easier, and more open to my old-fashioned thinking. A trip to the theatre or riding lessons may be suitable for them; both experiences that might lead on to new hobbies or a desire to learn more. Neither are particularly MSE though; I can't afford that level of expenditure for them all.
It's a puzzle. I want to avoid electronic gadgets and passive entertainment such as DVDs. If the children weren't scattered across Europe I'd consider bribing a friend who's got a boat to take us all whale-watching - but getting everyone together at a location where we could do that would be impossible (and the dogs would be a complication too far on that kind of trip).
I'll have to leave it for now - do something useful like progress my PPI claim to the FO. If that's successful I've decided the proceeds will fund the grand-children's treats, so I've got a few more weeks to think about it.0
