"There was a miraculous and substantial price drop and a "slagging off" of TalkTalk.

I would be interested to know what price they offered you as all they offered me was their standard Market 1 prices even though I told them Talk Talk were in my exchange!

Hi, sorry to hijack but I am in a very similar situation to OP.
TalkTalk are the only LLU provider, no virgin either (exchange is Newtownstewart).

    Line stats:
    Downstream Upstream
    Data rate (kbps) 3776 448
    Noise margin (Db) 4.6 10.0
    Output power (Dbm) 18.9 12.5
    Attenuation (Db) 61.0 31.5

    Speed Test Results

    Date15/08/12 18:52:37Speed Down2831.14 Kbps ( 2.8 Mbps )Speed Up360.80 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )Port:8095 Server:speedtest2.thinkbroadband.com

I'm a light user - currently with Newnet capped at 3GB costing 13.22/month (went to Newnet years ago out of fear of traffic shaping despite no P2P use).

Is TalkTalk my best option? (Would be cheapest if I switched phone as well - with BT now)

Tell me if I should start a new thread.
  • Yes talktalk llu will be fine if you stick to their forum support which is pretty good.

    .......and it's still a Market 1:mad:

Is there any way you can check how many exchanges have not been upgraded by Ofcom?

Sorry, what does Market 1 mean?

    And in regards to:

NB: the classification will in due course be changed to Market 2-good for Plusnet susbscribers.

    - is that for my exchange? I'm afraid I'm a wee bit confused!

These are the details for your exchange http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/EMKGWOR

At the bottom of the page it says .....
Market 1.. This exchange has BT Wholesale as the sole provider of broadband services.

.....which is clearly wrong. Ofcom are responsible for this list and are not doing their job properly.Plusnet and other customers in these exchanges pay twice the price they should. If you don't believe me try asking for an online quote for Plusnet using a phone number in that exchange http://www.plus.net/packages/

Many thanks for replies - have gone with talktalk. Does it matter if I cancel my Newnet adsl before my talktalk go-live date? (Router has failed so I can't use it anyway)
Edit - signed up online to get the voucher and wasn't asked for a MAC

Is there a TalkTalk rep on this board?

I signed up online on 21st August for phone and broadband, paid for a years line rental upfront and got the instant "welcome" email promising "an email and letter confirming the package including your go-live date". But since then nothing...

I phoned the order tracker but it does not recognise my phone number, have just spent half an hour talking to customer services, they could not find my account and eventually told me to call sales but I had already tried that - they just tried to sell me a sim card and told me to call customer services.

Is TalkTalk really that bad? days) .

Worse than bad! Especially with the LLU - we inherited Talktalk as we were Tiscali customers, service was ok prior to Talktalk, and when they llu'ed in our area, the service went from shabby to diabolical. Our number was "lost" in the llu process and we were dumped without a service for months- ombudsman eventually involved and we had a claim settled for £500! Add to the shambolic switchover to Llu the eternal nonworking email issues and the worst call centre in the world with every nonEnglish speaking person they could find, operating it.
No technical issues were ever resolved, they all lied themselves senseless about everything, and eventually we switched to Plusnet who have been absolutely ok. At least they speak English!!

I would avoid TalkTalk for ever and ever!!!!
