  • Thank you so much for the update OP - really uplifting and exciting: so glad for you and your son.
And I have certainly learnt alot through your clear explanations of what you and your son have to deal with with his condition.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Your description of your son could be used for my youngest, strong and fearless. I'm really happy you've found somewhere he can thrive doing what he is talented at.

I'm waiting for the local gym to have a space, he's been waiting for well over a year now, I find myself hoping I don't have the same issues as you've encountered.

Daska, they will have holiday clubs so put him in those first, they will just be a turn up and do session (although they might need booking). We still have a few weeks of the holidays left so see if they have any running.

I SO wish I had done this now but he was always hanging and swinging from things and I just thought the local one would be best, the difference in the two clubs was amazing. I did laugh when they put the parallel bars up because he said they were too low. :D

From experience - a year is a long time to wait to be honest so I would not look on this with optimism. It means that the children there are not progressing to higher classes to let anyone else in. This is what was happening at our local one. My daughter was 18 months before getting her first badge - which to be honest, is a complete joke (my son's situation aside). They would line all of the kids up and give them all their certificates except just the odd one or two. They did not focus on their weak points, nor did they tell the parents to help with a certain exercise, they just did not give them the badge and started them from the start next time around, then she still could not do it, etc.... This is why I pulled them and my DD has very little self confidence in regards to gymnastics now.

Thanks all of you for your support, certainly has a feel good feeling about it. And he has not stopped talking about it. Even my DD wants to go to an open session next week. :D

Thats great, it sounds promising for him & who knows perhaps one day he could take his own place in the Olympic team?

    Good luck
