Alleged Flouting of the Law

All I was trying to say is it's hardly crime of the century is it? It's on the same level as next door's 14yr old kid having a few pirated MP3s on their phone.
No-insurance, go ahead and shop them. No tax, I honestly don't care unless they are causing a nuisance in some other way.
How does lack of tax affect insurance claims? I'm sure there must be clauses about it. It's certainly a crime so would that affect the drivers decision making process should an accident occur?
Some things most people couldn't care about, but driving an untaxed/tested/insured car isn't likely to be one of them.0 -
Lack of tax or MOT does not affect insurance payouts to the person they hit in any way.
The MOT one has been done to death on this forum in previous threads, insurance clauses requiring an MOT are always overruled at the ombudsman, people even get the damage to their own cars repaired, unless the insurance is able to prove that the car had a significant fault that caused the accident (e.g. bald tyres after they aquaplane and slide into the back of someone).
I have yet to see a clause requiring the car to be taxed and even if it existed it would be unenforcible as simple failure to stick a bit of paper in the windscreen can not in any way contribute to an accident. In fact given that that bit of paper obstructs a small section of the windscreen, having no tax disc actually reduces your risk by an infinitesimal amount.0 -

By looking in their windows and seeing a tv being used in such a way that would require to be licenced.
!!!!!! Bob, get with the program.0 -
It was taxed, see post #800

As far as i'm concerned, it depends on how much out of date the tax disc is. If it's over a month, then i'll report it because it follows that the car is most likely un-insured as well.
As I said, if I have to pay, then I think everyone else should do as well.
my bike hasn't displayed a tax disc in over 6 years since it last got stolen. It's carried in my wallet.
& since the windscreen got replaced last your my car's tax disk has been in the glove compartment as well...yes I do keep forgetting.
Vehicles have always been taxed and insured as well.
I think the main point here is that even though it is strictly an offence not to display, I don't think that plod cares that much any more as everything is so automated. I'm sure we all know that the systems in police cars automatically register number plates which in turn access central databases on tax, insurance and MOT's.
I did once get stopped by a police car for having no MOT but as I had already booked it in to be tested and was driving it there, they just checked with the garage and off I went. Personally I was seriously impressed with how well the system worked.0 -
Only person that will car is an over zealous traffic warden with a target to meet, so do be careful about where you park while doing that.0

Is there any other sort of traffic warden?:)
Dave
Actually yes.
I once pulled into a space that wasn't legal to park in, near to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, and asked a traffic warden if it was legal to park here as I was nearly late for an outpatients appointment. He told me that it wasn't but also where I could park legally nearby, he warned me that they were limited to 2 hours but not to worry too much, was a really nice friendly chap.
3 hours later after finally being seen, I passed the same traffic warden coming the other way while returning to my car, he remarked that they always keep you waiting for ages in that bloody place. I returned to my car... no ticket!0 -
the term busy body comes to mind

I wonder. Is there any other sort of traffic warden?:)
On Friday I could see from a distance, one smart BMW in a Town street 'pay&display' well and truly clamped. Getting closer you couldn't miss the driver's door orange label " No Tax".
I suspect the Police would not have noticed so that leaves the warden......0
