I started this thread off on a Blue Ford Fiesta.
I eventually posted: Govt. Website result:
    Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
I was not comfortable with this terminology.

Apart from Diplomat's Cars, is there any other way of running a car without actually paying tax/obtaining a tax disc.

That is apart from obtuse temporary use - like moving to a pre-booked MOT appointment at a local garage.

Yes. It may have been cashed in and the database never updated.

Had a car once that was a couple of months without tax, still showed up ok on the database. Must have been cashed in by a previous owner.

It WAS possible to legally drive an untaxed car on a voting day for the sole purpose of conveying voters to the polling station and back. This was specifically allowed for in voting regulations, but I don't know if it is still the case.

The 'Raff' (manual workers in vans etc) are further down the street, far enough away not to bother us.

So it IS all about a rather scruffy car lowering the tone then?

    I wonder.

On Friday I could see from a distance, one smart BMW in a Town street 'pay&display' well and truly clamped. Getting closer you couldn't miss the driver's door orange label " No Tax".

I suspect the Police would not have noticed so that leaves the warden......

I park on a main road near to my office and I regularly see cars parked on the wide pavement that have been clamped for having no tax. I can only assume that once a day a warden walks up there as there are areas of double yellows and calls the clamper van when he spots one.

Is there any other sort of traffic warden?:)

    Dave

It would appear not....without wanting to totally direct this thread away from the subject, SWMBO has been a manager of waste services for many years but has now had to take on the job of managing traffic wardens as well. I can confirm that they are the biggest bunch of petty, moaning, lazy, work dodging, name calling, back stabbing bunch of arrogant to^&ers she has ever experienced. Especially compared to the road sweepers and bin men...

Oh the stories I've had to endure
