Thanks for the comments. As for my driving, I've had about 10 lessons on and of through out the years, my latest attempt was back in June/July I had a couple of lessons but I get to nervous in the car and it doesn't seem to get any easier so I don't know what's gonna happen there, I am starting to think I'm not cut out for it.

I know what you mean, being behind the wheel of a car terrifies me. Being in the passenger seat sometimes can be just as bad! But I always make it so I live in cities or suburbs now for public transport reasons and drivers tend to be more aggressive in these places, so it's a bit of a self fulfilling problem.

You're older and it's harder. Try to combine lessons with getting plenty of accompanied driving with experienced people to build up your confidence. And don't give up when the going is tough. It's just a car! You don't live in a city and you can't depend on public transport, so if you aren't going to move or can't move, then you need to be a driver.

Do please try and keep going, you'll find it a liberating experience if you can overcome your nerves and get your licence.

I occasionally bump into an old school friend who lives a short distance away. Her jobs for 30 years have been limited to a job she could get a lift to and two jobs she could walk to. She tried learning to drive, had several unsuccessful attemps and gave up. OK so she could commute using public transport, but I understand from what you've said before that options are limited for you in your area both in terms of jobs and public transport.

Driving will open up your world.

You will already know all the trials and tribulations of my job from previous posts but things just seem to go from bad to worse and I am just feeling hopelessly trapped.

I had to drag myself into work this morning as was having a bad does of the Monday blues but I went in. I wasn't the only one having a bad day the supervisor was making smart remarks all morning looking for a response and I eventually took the bate.

He kept asking had I certain things done yet, I raised my voice which I probably shouldn't off but the conversation went like this.

    ***Have you that done yet
    ***Yes its done
    ***What
    ***Its done

At this point he must of thought I said something else but he squared up to me and his face went red, I backed down and as he walked away he called me a f**king b**tard.

I was so angry and being the new guy have no support, I really can't be bothered with !!!!! like this anymore and as I say things are going from bad to worse, because I've backed down on this occasion he will think he can bully me, how do I play this?

It sound to me as if your have either the supervisor or even the job from hell? This behaviour is totally unacceptable and should be reported to your line manager or the person above him at once, as it equates to bullying and he's totally out of order. Just because someone gives you a wage you don't have to tolerate that kind of s*** and probably another reason why I choose to work from home.

I hope you get this sorted pronto or you could end up a nervous wreck!

The OP reports this, the supervisor denies all knowledge and next week the OP has no job.

Reporting alleged swearing in the workplace is not whistleblowing. I've included a link so that you can research whistleblowing for future reference.

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/ResolvingWorkplaceDisputes/Whistleblowingintheworkplace/DG_10026552

It would, of course, depend upon all of the circumstances, ie including whether it is repeated victimisation and/or based on discrimination.

I've helped a friend gain a settlement - settlement prior to Employment Tribunal - in a similar case, which led to constructive dismissal. There's ET caselaw also.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.

    What would apply here?

I can be like this as a passenger also, for me its anxiety kicks in more than fear of driving. Its kinda hard to explain, I get stomach cramps, I can't concentrate, I just feel the need to escape or that I am gonna freak out, my focus is on anything but driving. I get the same feeling when I am the passenger on a motorway.

Yes but then I'd be seen as the outcast and life would be even harder, I have no line manager, just the boss above him and he's equally as bad.

One bad day does not make a pattern and anything other than ignoring it may make things worse. Didn't you say you only need the job a few more weeks? In which case, I'd recommend water and duck's back as the approach.

Exactly this. A couple of weeks ago someone lost me work and time by pulling my power lead in error. They were convinced I was upset about it and was going to make it a huge issue however once I'd got past the initial "oh, thats not good!" and knew why it had happened I was over it and had moved on. No anger or residual attitude needed!

No reason to make things awkward without reason!

I could have made it an issue and felt it every time we passed each other but it just isn't worth it!

Perhaps hypnotherapy may be of use to address the issues you feel when you are in a car? May be worth spending the money on this before taking more lessons if this is a serious issue for you.
