Sorry, I haven't worked out yet how to do the clever hyperlinks....
  • Am using these for the first time. I have left them to soak overnight as per the instructions. Packet says to do this then boil....do I rinse them in clean water then put in fresh water and boil for required time or do I top up the soaking water and cook them in that - don't want to throw away any vitamins or anything IYSWIM
  • yes, chuck the water out rinse and then boil in fresh, soaking water really stinks doesn't it

This is a quick question that I hope someone can help me with!
My local Tesco's was out of dried green split peas  so I bought the yellow ones, can I use them the same as the green ones???
Or does anyone have any recipes with yellow split peas.
    Thanks

  • absolutely, they are just a different colour:)
  • I like to cook them, mix them with fried onion and stock, and put them into pasties.

Then i give them to my vegan friends and its the nearest they get to a cheese and onion pasty :)

They are good added to indian dishes or cooked as a dhal, great in soups, added to stews or used to bulk out mince dishes instead of lentils (if doing this though it's best to boil them before adding to the mince mix though, as they don't melt down quite as quickly as lentils!).
