    My recommendations are:

    - Stardrops for cupboards, worktops, painted surfaces, etc. Use diluted for most cleaning, but can be used neat for more stubborn stains.

    - White spirit for stains on carpets and upholstery.

    - Methylated spirits for cleaning glass - a dash in the window cleaning water and a chamois leather brings up the shine beautifully. Stubborn marks (grease, selotape, etc.) can be attacked with neat spirit and very very fine steel wool (00). (I figure you may not wish to use white vinegar since this is your business and it can leave a bit of a chip shop smell around!).

    - Lidl's W5 Limescale Remover for baths, taps etc. (Again, not much more expensive than vinegar, but smells better). For limescale encrusted round taps, soak a piece of JCloth or cotton wool in the Remover and tie around the tap and leave for a few hours (overnight if possible).

    - Cheap Cola is great for cleaning stained toilets if left for a few hours. Lidl's also do cheap toilet cleaning tablets that remove stains and limescale in about 30 mins.

    - Dr Beckmann's Rescue gel for ovens is very good (I think I got it in Wilkinson's) and doesn't give off awful fumes like other cleaners and can be used on warm ovens.

Use microfiber cloths for everything - windows, mirrors, bathrooms, kitchens, floors...

They hoover up dust better than the expensive pledge things, they don't leave fluff everywhere like yellow dusters, they absorb gallons of liquids unlike J-Cloths, and they last forever. All you do when they're manky is put them in the washing machine on a cool wash and they come out spanking new looking and ready to go again.

They're used in the hospital I work in and they're so good that the cleaning company have had to send out an e-mail to the staff asking everyone who has "borrowed" some for use at home to bring them back as they've lost 5000 in just over three months!

Not sure i can make it to you Lizzie!

As a freebie though i add my vote for Oven Pride. £5 is pricey but does the job on every oven that we have been tasked with....including students!!

I agree with Oven pride, the carp that somes off with it is really shocking.

Can I get Microfibre cloths from the supermarket? Not noticed them before, but that might be because I haven't been looking.

Can you help me out with cheap alternatives for cleaning products please? Marco

this may already have been answered elsewhere I dont know. I was following an older thread about buying bi carb in bulk cheaply. I used to make soap and bath bombs and i got a kilo of bi carb online from the soapkitchen based in devon for £1.35. i realise theres going to be a delivery charge but it depends on if you want other stuff as well i suppose

You can - Tesco do 2 for 65p. I bought these and was fairly impressed with them, but then I bought a pack of 4 in either Poundland or the 99p shop, and they seem a lot better. The Tesco ones feel smooth as you wipe them over surfaces, whereas the other ones seem to 'drag' slightly, and actually seem to be cutting through the dirt.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place....:o

My friend had just moved into a flat and I am helping her clean though and decorate.

When we got to kitchen...what can I say.

The tops of the cupboards look like they have had grease poured onto them and left for years! It's disgusting!

We've tried all kinds of spray on cleaning products but when we try to clean it away, its just a sticky mess.

Can anyone please advise of a good way to get rid of this by the cheapest way possible?

    Thanks for your help ;)
