Cleaning Tips Please!

Hi,

maybe there is already a thread for this, but I haven't seen it yet.

I was wondering if there is a list of alternative products for daily cleaning.
I am aware of stardrops, but I haven't seen it in years, but I am going on a search for it tomorrow.

I've never used microfibre cloths, well I think I may have brought some about 14 years ago, if they are what I think they are. But I will be looking out for them tomorrow

I've also read about buying tesco soap powder and mixing it with white vinegar and soda crystals for washing clothes- those items I already have so I will be putting that into action as soon as the washing machine goes on next!

What other tips are there? I must admit I don't go for all the gimmicky products that are on the market, my worst extravagance in that area is 'flash wipes' (for the toilet, after the boys....) and my 'easy mop', which I am about to re-fill the bottle with a standard mix of floor cleaner and water.

I look forward to seing the responses

Thanks in advance

If you look on the blue line at the top of the page and click on Indexed Collections, there's a huge thread on cleaning products, which is really useful.
Incidentally, next time you're skulking round Lidl's, their own-brand cleaning wipes are fantastic, and much cheaper than Flash (and come in bigger packets). I've got lemony ones (as it were) in all my loos, and they're great not just for wiping round the loo, but for cleaning taps and basins too. You only need one wipe for the whole lot (though obviously, you probably want to clean the taps and basins BEFORE you do the loo, LOL!!)...
  • Thanks for that!

I'm very new to this forum, and I am still struggling to get to terms with where to put posts and stuff like that.

Up until 2 days ago, I was using the main search instead of the forum search - doh!

You're very welcome, and don't worry, it took me AGES to find my way round (mainly because my computer was on the blink at the time, it transpired!). This is one of the nicest forums I've ever been on as everyone is always genuinely willing to help and answer your questions - I've learnt loads from it. Anyway, off to bed now! White vinegar is used as a conditioner - do not put it in the soap powder.

I came across an easy mix for washing powder - rather than the laundry gloop which involves heating it up

    1 mug washing soda crystals

    1 mug grated soap

    1 mug borax

Use one or two tablespoons every wash.

  • I'm not sure if I mentioned I used to use stardrops years ago, until my local sainsburys stopped selling it.

I toddled off to asda today and got some again :) I also got a vileda multi purpose cloth, which, reading the small print must be a microfibre one, pack of 3 for less than £1 - they were 50% extra free.

My Kitchen and bathroom are gleaming, although my hands are a little dry!

Hi - never very good at finding posts I have seen briefly in the past, but sometime when I was reading about Stardrops I saw mention of (I think )Tesco Toilet or limescale cleaner being good - cheap and fresh smelling, but don't know how to find post again - can anyone help if they know of it? Thanks.

There is a huge section on cleaning in the mega index. It's worth having a look in there.

I have just started up a post letting cleaning business and, after reading some of your superb ideas i reckon i am overspending on products to get the job done. Can you help me out with cheap alternatives for cleaning products please? I have found the odd bargain in pound shops and i vaguely remember something about diluted white vinegar for windows...i think!!

The floor is open! How many tips can you think of for floors, ovens, worktops, bathrooms etc etc etc!

    Thanks alot everyone!
