I've had to resort to a scraper and WD40. And it was my gunk. (There doesn't seem to be a smiley for shame...)

ok so this ones not very OS but when I moved into two previous flats I had exactly the same problem, I dowsed the tops of the cupboards with cream cleaner ( asdas cheapest) and it lifted the grease right off after they were clean I covered the tops of the cupboards with greaseproof paper so that when it came to cleaning them again all I had to do was lift off the grease proof paper.;)
One warning tho make sure if you are gonna line the tops make sure you only use grease proof paper as normal paper goes to mulch under the grease this had happened in the first flat I moved into and the other tennants had used newspaper and all the print had come off onto the cupboards and wouldn't budge. The paper itself had to be scraped off:mad:

Hello there

Great tips :T you can see all of these and more on Moneysaving old style. I think the Alka selzter might not be moneysaving though, they would be quite expensive to use for household cleaning I would imagine.

Pressure cooker inside and also a garlic press, have gone very dark.

They are clean but don't look clean.

Soda crystals make it worse and the garlic press has been in vinegar all night and came out as it went in.

Can anyone advise on a magic bullet, please?

Thanks nealallen, a wonderful compendium of household tips - without doubt the most useful being the one in your signature :rotfl:
• I just want to say that it is actually remarkably safe to post on the old style board. You may find it interesting to see the 'sneaky ways to save the pennies thread'. You don't have to post, you can just browse.

But I have really enjoyed reading the list (almost all new to me :o) and I hope some more will be posted. Thank you.

I know the original post in this thread has been revived from a couple of years ago, but I'm going to move it to Old Style now.

Campden, don't know about the garlic press but if you bring the pressure cooker to the boil with enough water to cover the black stuff and a squeeze of lemon juice, that should do the trick. Did you boil a pudding in it with aluminium foil on top? That's what turns it dark!

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Old Style board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
