Sony imported twice as many PS3's and didn't sell them all but still sold more than the number of Wii's sold on the launch day. I suspect Nintendo could have sold far more Wii's though if they had been available.
Just 'cos Sony had far more consoles available in the stores doesn't mean they've sold them all. The figure quoted of 165,000 sold over a weekend seems awfully high. The number of people on here and on other sites who had multiple orders and cancelled them is staggering to me. It's a very clean, round and convenient figure and I think it's simply been made up so that people cannot claim the launch has been a disaster - in fact they are claiming the opposite. But there was no mad rush anywhere. No clamour and the Ebay sellers must be getting desperate - maybe it was them that bought the 165,000!
Call me a cynic but after all, people won't buy what they perceive to be a turkey and Sony have gotta shift those consoles somehow. Fake sales returns used to happen in the music charts all the time and look at the various telephone voting scandals
I wonder how many games have been sold?:D0 -
The PS3 has so many in stocks as they had to push back the release date meaning they were able to get more machines on the shelfs, at the end of the day the PS3 is expensive and sony have said they will reduce the cost but saying that more than 1.5mil will sell this year alone!
But watch out a new version of the Wii is coming! with DVD player and maybe HD, will be out in Q3-Q4 of 2007!
Wii is out selling the PS3 something like 3-1 but no one can get their hands on a Wii at the mo but everywhere has PS3 as the have at least 300k in the warehouse!
PS3 is like a Wii but also like a 360 its got the best bits from both and even more.......motion sensor control (like the wii, not as advance but just as good) HD.DVD like the 360! it all comes down to what sort of games you will want to play!0 -
God, the PS3 is such a rip-off0

The figure of 165,000 in the UK alone is not from Sony and is an independant fact.
There weren't massive queues everywhere, because Sony asked people to pre-order in advance.
The complaints that the launch has been a disaster are therefore baseless.
Compare the PS2 launch to the PS3 launch.
It took 5 months to sell 550,000 PAL (Europe) PS2s when that was launched. It took just 3 days for the PS3 to sell the same amount.
The PS2 has sold over 100 million consoles - the PS3 package has got everything it needs to go the same way - its certainly off to a great start.
People slagged off Microsoft & Nintendo for not having enough consoles on launch day. When Sony does the right thing they still can't win the moaners over.
But hey, what do I care. I've got my PS3 and can either play games/movies/photos/music/internet etc... on it, or watch my movies & music streaming from it over wifi to my PSP while I sit out in the garden with a cool beer.:beer:0 -

No you're thinking of the Wii, THAT IS a kids toy and nothing else!
The PS3 is so much more, not to mention the Blu Ray player which alone would still cost you best part of £500 if bought seperately!
Also you can happily play most PS2 games it's just this is supported in software not hardware, which in theory is probably better as any updates to improve compatibility can be made easily.
So for just over £400 I still think it's a no-brainer!
Still doesn't mean I can afford one though!
Not exactly.
The quality of the Blu Ray player on the PS3 won't be as good as a quality standalone Blur Ray Player.0
