Just don't believe that. If the PS3 outsold the Wii on its launch then why can you get them everywhere and why is the price going down, not up?

    Quote from Brand Republic:

"Sony PS3 hit by £10m in cancellations
by Gareth Jones Marketing 27-Mar-07, 08:30

LONDON - The long-awaited UK launch of Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) games console has been marred by the cancellation of more than £10m worth of orders from retailers and consumers.

Retail industry sources claim the electronics giant has had as many as 20,000 pre-orders of the £425 console cancelled in the run-up to its delayed launch last Friday."

I think someone, somewhere is telling porkies:p

Because they imported far more into the UK than Nintendo did with the Wii. Ninetendo sold all of the Wii's they had in the UK on the launch day, same with the Xbox 360. Sony imported twice as many PS3's and didn't sell them all but still sold more than the number of Wii's sold on the launch day. I suspect Nintendo could have sold far more Wii's though if they had been available.

I'm betting in a couple of months the "UK" model will be £299 or less!

That'll teach'em to give us a substandard product late!

    Absolutely.

The only reason they've sold more PS3s is because they had more available to sell (as above).

I think if they all had unlimited stocks at launch, the wii would have sold 4 or 5 times more than the other two.

Does anyone have the stats for the total number of each in the uk now?

No stats but an interesting site:

(I didn't find this btw, the kudos goes to someone called Lexeus on another site)

what was that about no hardware ps2 support? can you not play ps2 games on the ps3?
  • That said, £400 is still a hell of a lot of money to pay for a kids toy.
No you're thinking of the Wii, THAT IS a kids toy and nothing else!
The PS3 is so much more, not to mention the Blu Ray player which alone would still cost you best part of £500 if bought seperately!
Also you can happily play most PS2 games it's just this is supported in software not hardware, which in theory is probably better as any updates to improve compatibility can be made easily.
    So for just over £400 I still think it's a no-brainer!
Still doesn't mean I can afford one though!

The Euro PS3 doesn't support the ps2 in Hardware (Good), instead Sony have done this in Software (Bad), this means limited number of games supported and constant upgrades etc.

    Not a good move IMHO!

    "PS3 is a no-brainer"

    Sony employee? (joke)

Hardware support is always far better than SW support.

See the ukresistance site for details on compatibility but IIRC it was something like only 12 out of the latest chart are playable.

Blu-ray players will be far less by the time anyone actually needs (or even wants) one.

So I agree...you'd have to be a no-brainer to buy one. LOL

BTW, I love the insinuation that most of the people who got a free TV at launch were friends of Sony employees who'd been tipped off!
