Harveys - Peel good furniture! Shocking service!

I would like to make everyone aware about the terrible service I received recently from Harveys the Furniture Store! They lied to us! Never buy a sofa from them! We ended up having a battle with them to get a refund!:
The quality of our new Sofa (http://www.harveysfurniture.co.uk/products/living-room/collections/jupiter.aspx) was shocking. After a few months it developed lots of small tears/rips and pins where sticking out. Non of these defects were due to accidental damage.
So we rang Harveys for a refund who said that before we get a refund they would have to send out an inspector to asses whether or not the tears were due to manufacturing defect or accidental damage.
The company ( Ecomaster) came out and inspected the tears and pins and repaired the rips. Then after that I rang Harveys expecting to get a refund and they said the report came back as accidental damage! I was shocked.
So another month past and even more rips started to appear! About twenty in total, all over the single seater and the 3 seater! So I rang Harveys and again they said that there inspector had to come out. So the same guy came out again and again Harveys said it was due to accidental damage! I complained on the phone and asked for the duty manager and was told no manager was available. So I had to pay £99 to the furniture ombudsman (who were very helpful) to get and independent report done (as per guidance form Trading standards).
The report came back as manufacturing fault! So the report was sent to Harveys and by this time we posted a message of complaint on Harvey’s Facebook page and within an hour a manger from Harveys phoned us back! A copy of the report was e-mailed to Harveys who accepted that it was manufacturing fault (after a long standing battle on the phone!).
We got a £99 refund for the report and Harveys said they would offer us a full refund but it would take few weeks as it would be via a cheque! We argued with them as we had paid on line with visa debit and due to card scheme rules we were entitled to a refund back on the visa debit card. We then arranged for the junk/firewood sofa to be collected and on the day it was collected we rang Harveys and eventually got our refund (instantly).
We also complained to Ecomaster who said that both reports concluded that the tears could have been accidental but the sticking out pins were in fact manufacturing fault! So we knew that Harveys were lying to us and withheld information from the Ecomaster report!
I will never buy from them again and we have recently bought a quality sofa from DFS. I have listed some useful contacts for Harveys below. If you are having difficulty with Harveys I would recommend posting it on their Facebook wall and also contact trading standards for advice! It's a shame we didn't use a credit card!

Harveys v DFS....6 and 2 3's from what I gather. My suite (and service) from Harveys has been great to be honest. Others differ.0

Hi jammiev
I'll move this one across to our Vents Board since you don't appear to be asking for any consumer advice here.Forum_Team wrote:

Harveys are ridiculously expensive imho. We have a dining table and chairs from them we bought in 2003, not had a great amount of use. It's still going but one of the legs has been re-welded, and the scratch resistant glass is pretty scratched. It was in the sale though so has worked out quite well in terms of cost per use.
The sofa we got (from Dodgy F'ing Sofas, as it is quite commonly known) in the same year..well that only got weekend use until 2007. When it got daily use from that point until we got rid of it last year, the quality of the leather was clearly quite poor. It had cracks all over it, looked so worn, it was only fit for someone who was in desperate need for something and wouldn't mind putting throws over it. Having cost us the best part of £2.5k (3 piece), we managed £40 on eBay for what turned out to be 4 years use. Bloody waste of money, wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Not to mention we were left in our new flat without a sofa for four months while they messed about with the delivery....!I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Hi I am having the exact same problem with the exact same sofa! bought a sofa in dec 09 for £750 with delivery, it was faulty, complained jan 10, couldn't find me on record, so went to shop, found me straight away, then they tried to repair, eventually replaced nov 2011 with jupiter sofa (don't remember price), by jan 2012 it started splitting. I have had them out to repair my sofa 4 times, each time they have failed for one reason or another (wrong material etc) they then gave me a reselection, which is just as crap and is splitting all over, they have told me I can have another reselection as this sofa is now discontinued so they have no parts to repair it. They have said I can't have a refund only reselection to the value of 599 !! . I want a refund, I don't want anything more from harveys. Am I within my rights to claim refund for my sofa AND the two delivery charges (one from the first pile of !!!!!! and one from the other pile of !!!! they replaced the first one with)
can anyone offer me any advice as Harveys are just taking me for a total ride.0 -
