Gem I would fight the housing benefit bit, even if they just ending up accepting installments it will be something. I know it can be a pain having another battle to fight but go for it, you know you can do it. If you have any problems go and see a Councillor (one of those who wants your vote type) and they should be able to help you deal with the department.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

Short review to follow, but can any1 tell me:
If i have to disclose my employer details to debt collection agencys if they ask this on a expenditure form ? I work for a small GP Practice and would like to keep my private business quiet. The company in question is working with Barclays and called Westcot. Unfortunately i have been given 2 different answers from Paypal.
Thanks,
GQ.

Hi Gemqueen,
Not been on this site for a while and seen your thread for the first time today. WOW! you have turned your life around so much since the first post. You must be soooo proud of how much you have achieved and how positive and upbeat you are.
I don't doubt that there are probably a few down days every now again, but keep up the good work girl, you are definitely gonna get there.

Hi GQ. Glad to hear of your progress.
Regarding debt collecting agencies, do not give them any telephone numbers. You are not obliged to. My advice is to politely inform them that you will only deal with them in writing.

I definitely wouldn't give them any numbers let alone an employers telephone number.
Good luck and look forward to your next update to see how you are getting on.

Thanks to those who replied to the previous query.
So July/August 2007 Update:
I have increased my working hours from 10hrs to 37.5hrs in just 7 months.. I am very proud of that! Even though working in a GP's practice does not pay much, it pays for my debts.
All but Barclaycard have accepted monthly instalments.
Housing benefit are taking weekly instalments from my housing benefit directly with regards to the overpayment. :rolleyes2
I have a regular patch in a school for car boot sales, so far, I have made just over £1,000, and every penny has gone on bringing down debts. :T
Ebay has bought some money in, just over £200.00 so far.. yay those designer hand bags.... :j
The bank charges are with them, they have not offered me anything yet, but say they will be in contact within 10 working days.
A kind friend has paid for me to go to New York, to attend my best friends wedding next week, I am soo looking forward to this. A whole week away!!
:drool:_party_
Now all of my salary is going into an account, which doesnt drain it off straight away because of an overdraft, it is much easier to work out a budget, and most of my utilities are paid by standing order on the 1st of each month, as i get paid on the 31st of each month.
I can honestly say, i can look back and see that being in debt nearly made me take my own life, and for what? Utterly senseless, but when you are in the situation with people ringing, and sending threatening letters, at first you tend to try to block it out. I only wished i had tackled it sooner, but am glad of all the advice which made me start thinking positvely.
I cant thank you all enough!. xxxxxxxxxxxx
