I can't believe it's been almost a month since I last posted on here, but I didn't much feel like sharing the doom and gloom.
So while things are worse with DH, his uncle died and the car got hit in the hospital car park yesterday there are some positives.
The refurb is pretty much done and we can live more normally and the bulbs survived the onslaught they got when Poppet puppy arrived.
I plan to get out in the garden this weekend, hopefully it will stay dry.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
We had some positive news for DH this week but not out of the woods yet, so they say. Work is pants but I'm not going down without a fight, or at least getting my message across.
In MSE news, I haven't been saving as much as I'd like but I did remember to claim my expenses.
Gardening today and out with DD for Mother's Day tomorrow.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
I'm so glad things feel positive enough for you to want to post, Jazee. It sounded as though you were dealing with an awful lot at the same time and it takes a tough cookie to get through and come out enjoying spring bulbs.
I'm glad you've had positive news and the house refurb is over. Sorry work is pants but it sounds as though you've got your head in the right space to deal with what they're throwing at you. Good luck with it.

Morning diary and anyone following it.
A lot has happened since my last post. DH unfortunately still poorly (he's having more tests as I type this) but we've had fun with a night away last weekend at the seaside. We just can't do all the walking and stuff we would have in the past, so had to make use of buses to get along the front and the tram for getting up the cliff to the hotel.
Workwise, I have lost my current role (official end day today) so company are trying to find me something else. I'm on leave now for 3 weeks so will see how the land lies when I get back.
In anticipation of having a job not based a home, I am now in the process of purchasing a car (new to me) which I may pick up today. This is quite a large unbudgetted expense so I need to get back fully on the MSE wagon especially as I don't know what I'll be earning in the future.
I fell off this morning when I remembered that DH wanted me to book a days event in June, so already on the backfoot there.
Anyway, I shall post my progress here.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Sorry to hear your OH is feeling under the weather, Jazee. I think you both need things to look forward to, so well done for booking the June thing.
As to the car - if you need it to work you've got to have one. I hope whatever role you go back to after your three weeks off suits you. In the meantime while you're off, I hope you get fabby weather so you can spend a lot of it in the garden and walking the dogs.Better is good enough.0 -
I'm still following and rooting for you, so enjoy the time off and anything booked. It's difficult to adapt to what life/age etc brings and I have to constantly remind myself of my late stepfather who had an incredible ability to immediately accept any "bumps in the road" and move forward from there - much like a sat nav that can recalculate instantly from a new starting point. It's so easy to think of "what we used to be able to do" but it isn't a helpful mindset.

Thanks HB and Narco. A different mindset is definitely needed, a "how can we still do this, but in another way?"
I didn't pick up the car yesterday. I'm buying it from someone who has a garage who I really trust and he wants to do some more checks so it will be Tuesday now.
I've had a lovely day so far today. In between showers, I've walked the dogs been for a run and done some gardening. Also dyed DD's hair and quickly hoovered through.
Concious not to wear myself out on my first day off, so I've just had a soak in the bath and will take another stroll with Littley and Poppet soon.

A week since I last posted. I now have my new to me car which DH bought for me with his bonus. Bank balance now looking dire due to other associated costs and I've not yet saved a penny in April.
My time off the paid stuff was going well until Tuesday morning when I put my back out just putting clothes on the airer. I decided to try to carry on with gardening plans that day, and while the garden looks tons better, I've been in pain since.
Today it is easing off however, so I'll try to do a bit more today. A walk with the dogs to the docs to pick up meds should be ok.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
I hope you've had decent weather for your week off Jazee and that your garden and greenhouse are under control. Sorry about your back - have you been shifting pots around?
You may remember that you very kindly sent me some tomato seeds either last year or the year before. Before I rushed out and bought a whole load more this year I went through what I'd got lurking at the bottom of the seed heap here and found the very last remains of yours, so I planted them up this week in little peat-type pots which are safely coralled on the bench, sweating nicely under a plastic box cover. I've finally got a greenhousey-type thing! Fingers crossed they'll germinate and I'll have you to thank for your generosity and a bumper harvest.Better is good enough.0 -
Morning HB, I hope the seeds work for you. I've grown far too many tomato plants again this year. I have loads of other spare seeds, if you want them let me know.
I have to admit to feeling very sorry for myself this morning. My back is still really hurting (not moving plant pots, just putting washing on the airer) and it took me 20 minutes to walk round the block with the dogs which is usually 5-10 minutes depending on how much sniffing they need to do.
This afternoon is bowls, but I'll just go along for the company, not to play. DH is on a late shift.
I'm just so frustrated at not being able to do all the things and days out I'd planned for this last week. I'm not back at work till 3rd May so am hoping that I can do more next week.Spend less now, work less later.0
