So I had no spends yesterday, can't say the same for DH.

All eyes and ears here have been on the floods in York. DS stayed dry fortunately, the floods are due to hit here today but hopefully the defences will hold up.

Oh and the cooker was playing up yesterday so hopefully dinner will go to plan even if it does end up being salad with the meat I cooked yesterday.

As is usual on New Year's Eve I have been thinking about the year gone by and I have to say it has mostly been positive. We cleared the debt which had been hanging over our heads since 1997 and sooner than planned, and although we now have new debt from buying the car, it is manageable and I'm hoping to clear that in half the expected time. So that maybe this time next year, I can say we are debt free again.

Also this year, we have had some lovely evenings out and quite possibly our best holiday ever. I have also tried out a new job for 3 months and loved it but wait to see what type of employment the new year will bring.

And looking forward to next year, now that the inquest is over DS and his fiancee will start to plan their wedding, and DD is now also happily settled with her BF. We have our holiday (paid for already) to look forward to and some nights out in the spring too all sorted out.

What I wish for the new year is that DH is free of pain soon. Anything else will be a bonus.

Happy New Year to anyone who reads this stuff!

So that was last years NYE post. I can't say that I'm debt free again because we are still paying the car loan off but within a couple of months I should have enough in savings to clear it a few months early if I so wish. We currently have the most savings we've ever had and its such a comforting feeling.

We're cutting back on evenings out this coming year as we're normally just too tired after the paid stuff to enjoy ourselves properly so any nights out will be carefully planned probably alongside taking some leave. But next year's holiday is booked and paid for and I can't wait.

DS and his fiancee decided they're quite happily just engaged and living together so no wedding plans yet. DD and her partner also equally settled and happy which is just lovely.

DH is not completely free from pain but compared with last year is much better.

Job wise - busier than ever and I like the work but still don't particularly get on with all the management. I should however get a regrade and a pay rise this year, fingers crossed.

Currently waiting on some medical tests to come back, hoping everything will be ok.

Looking forward to 2016 - bring it on.

Happy New Year diary and anyone actually reading it.

I went to bed as usual at 10pm, got woken up by LittleyDog at midnight as she heard a firework and had to check no one was breaking in, so I watched the fireworks on telly, then went back to bed. Fireworks were still going off around the village but LittleyDog was satisfied we were safe and settled down quickly.

Up early today as DH had to get up for the paid stuff. So I am already dressed and have been perusing the book of face. Just found out there is going to be a family wedding later this year - I so hope we don't get an invite. I don't want to do anything this year that will cost me loads in money or time but not bring much joy. Life is too short. Gosh, I sound all bah humbug!

DD and her partner are coming round today 'to chill' so I'll do us a buffet lunch with the last of the seasonal food.

Right, I'll peruse the forums, then wash the breakfast dishes and walk the dogs. House could do with a quick hoover through too as OldDog has been shedding a lot of fur.

    Have a great day everyone.

Morning diary. A good start to 2016. DH treated me to a scratch card and I've won £10.

Today I'm going to York with DD and her partner and will be spending more than I'd like in that they want to go for afternoon tea at Bettys. Nice as it is, I'm only paying for myself but still think that nearly £20 is a rip off - but I got outvoted 'as its a new year treat'.

We'll also be going round the museums but I have a yearly pass for that. Also looked out my English Heritage pass to find that although they took the renewal money in October we've not received the new cards, so that's something I'll need to sort out.

Have just sent a shopping list to DH to get stuff for the weeks menus on the way home from his paid stuff. Its not too long so we should be able to keep to the grocery budget again this week.

Yesterday I spent £28.20 in total on trip out with DD and her partner which is within my personal budget and despite being bah humbug about it, had a lovely day which was a great end to the Christmas holiday.

DH forgot to get the shopping yesterday so no spends there. He'll get it today. He obviously had a bad day. So we went out for a meal in the evening, again within the 'entertainment' budget. Keeping to just one meal out a month now though.

So spends today will be the shopping. Apart from dog walking I'll be staying in and taking down the decorations.

Yesterday was a no spend day for me. I only picked up DDs prescription but she'll be paying me back. Squirrelled £10 to savings yesterday, £5 today, and just got some interest on the current account so will put another £5 in saving tomorrow. Also put a £1 yesterday in my Xmas 2016 pot.

Here's hoping today is another NSD.

I must remember to ask DD for her prescription money. Managed to save about another £40 this week and to keep to our menu plan.
Have just done another meal plan for this week and sent the shopping list to DH to get on his way home. Should be within grocery budget.

No other spends planned as yet.

So yesterday I ended up popping to the shop to pay my paper bill (as the paper hadn't been delivered and I thought this may be why). Paper bill for 4 weeks - eek -, picked up 3 pot noodles at 50p each and two litres of apple juice for £1.20, oh and a losing £1 scratch card.

Today I've spent £2.75 on line for some vinyl food covers which should save me money in the long run on cling film - and help the environment.

What a week. In MSE news, I've not managed to save anything extra, and have now used my budgets for the month (except grocery which has a little left for today's shop) due to a vet bill being more than expected and the fence costing a little more to repair than I expected.

Also got a quote for the new bedroom, just over £3k so will go with that, but it will take a while to get the savings up again, although I will still have twice what I like to keep in the emergency pot.

And in other news, a death in the family, which makes you take stock and count your blessings.

Another week, another vet bill. OldDog has fractured her paw. More will be spent tomorrow when she returns to the vet.

Pay day today. Subject to vet bills I may be able to save something this month.
