Indeed - but with No fixed abode they must surely look at it -so sooner or later it would rear it's head

I think this would work as it's what my husband & I did when he lost his ESA appeal but also on DLA low mobility, middle care.

I claimed Income Support couple rate due to being my husband's carer.

Here's what you would be entitled to living together as a couple.

Income Support couple rate £111.45 week (£222.90 fortnight)
Disability Premium £43.25 week (£86.50 fortnight)
Carer Premium £32.60 week (£65.20 fortnight)
    Total £187.30 week (£374.60 fortnight)

    Less
    Carer's Allowance £58.45 week (£116.90 fortnight)

Income Support £128.85 week (£257.70 fortnight)

That's how the letter from benefits office would set it out. Easy way to explain it is that Income Support treat Carer's Allowance as income and take it off but then add the Carer premium on.

You would also be able to get LHA for a one bed house or flat and Council Tax Benefit.

For bills such as gas & electric, you're paying more being in seperate houses than you would if you were living together. If 2 people are paying £10 each for electric a week, I'm not sure what it goes down to when they live together but my estimate would be £15 at the most.

If benefits office are ok with you claiming seperately but you spending most of your time caring for your partner, my thinking would be it's due to your partner needing a carer with her.

My advice to you would be to move in with her and claim as a couple. I think you've been given a lot of wrong information by various agencies which has led you to thinking that you won't be able to manage financially if you move in together.

Problem is Kate - they are looking at the past. They personally got £170 (IB and IS), now they have been refused that and found fit for work they are looking at £71 pw (plus moving in and losing some benefits).
