Isn't that still playing the system?

    It most certainly is.

I think princessdon was being sarcastic.
  • What about ~Direct Payments? Maybe your 'partner' could be eligible to these..these are done through councils, and needs a care plan.

So look at the other scenario - what happens if you don't claim carers allowance and live together - would one of you or both of you claim ESA?

I am not actually criticising you OP. I have no time for those that lie and cheat the benefit system (ie live together and claim not to etc). You are being honest.

She is your partner, you will spend a lot of time at her house to care for her, you just wish to claim separately and officially live separately on paper to gain more benefits.

Whilst I disagree with that personally - the fact that you have been honest and they allow it means it isn't fraud.

There are things I still don't understand like why there is such a drop and how they passing the "living with test" - but end of the day you are certainly not hiding anything and appear to have informed them exactly of your situation.
  • We have not heard of Direct Payments. Will look into this. Thanks.

If we both claimed ESA and lived together then I presume we would receive £290 every two weeks. It's certainly cheaper to live as a couple than separately.

This may be the only possibility at the moment. We have only just got engaged and haven't moved in together just yet so the whole procedure is quite new to us, especially since the IB and IS has been scrapped.

    Thanks for these.

Did they give you a break down of the figures, because the only thing you partner would lose if you claimed CA is her SDP.

Did they count the HB in their figures..
  • Yes they did Mikey.

I also forgot to mention she loses her Single Person's Allowance too.

These are the facts we were given today. The system is completely wrong. Either it hasn't been thought through properly or the government are trying to cut as much benefit as possible without a care of who they hurt in the process.

As I say, this matter is being taken further - PUBLICALLY! (just for those doubters who are still convinced that we are trying to play the system). Expect to see our names in the papers or on TV soon!

I am struggling to see how they get this...
Dont go into too much details.
But I thought you had failed your IB now had no benefit
your partner was claiming ESA, she has SDP..
As I stated to you before, putting aside HB.
You if you claimed CA would get £106 ish with I.S
she would lose her SDP but keep ESA etc.

If you got together, Couple ESA and what ever add ons, still lose SDP unless you have DLA, do you??
  • No. She loses more than half her ESA. Sorry but I don't understand what SDP is. Carers Allowance is currently £58.45 and any benefit I receive, ESA, etc. is stopped. Ask JSP or DWP Carer's section. They confirmed this.

I know many of you are insisting that the facts are different to the ones we have been given but I'm sorry to say that those of you are wrong.

We still live in hope that we have been given incorrect information, but it appears not. I don't know what else I can say. The system is wrong! The CAB specialist thinks it is so badly wrong that he is taking it to higher levels.
