Should I tip my builders ?

Should I tip my builders and if so how much (two of them).

They did a 3 week job, all looks very good (what I can see) and they were very obliging and kept me involved. I was going to but then they are self employed and it wasn't a cheap job. I got the feeling they were expecting it when they left (but that might be a perception) and also they are coming back to do another big job and I was thinking I'd just give them a tip after they've done the lot.

    I wouldn't to be honest.

I worked in the building industry for 25 years (in the office) and it is never expected.

Just keep them supplied with tea and biscuits and they will be very, very grateful
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Tipping? No way! As the PP said tea & biccies are enough. They charge enough & provide a service. I don't believe in this tipping lark!

My builders got unlimited tea and coffee, biscuits on
Monday and doughnuts on Fridays (double if they'd got more work donethan expected).

Didn't cross my mind to tip!!

nope, I didn't tip at the end of our build but was fairly generous throughout with tea/biscuits/cake every day & the odd round of doughnuts/pizzas & sarnies

The only time i have ever been given tips is when i have done insurance work, as the homeowners were getting the work done for free :D It was usually for the difficult fiddly jobs which other people didnt want to do. It was never large sums £10 etc..
On the odd job if its a few months work i have been given lager etc but as others have said, cups of coffee and tea are all that is wanted..

I tipped my builders labourers, there were 4 of them and I gave £200.

I also bought them their lunch each day from Mickey D's,KFC,chippy etc.

Did a fantastic job and were 1/2 the price of another quote.

Some of my engineers get tips often, they share them with the labourers helping them. If I went out fitting, I wouldn't accept it, but say ok for labourer
