We tried to up our consumption on the none fast days but unless we eat junk food cannot stop the weight loss.
What a nice position to be in, my weight loss seems to have levelled off now and will of course suffer a severe setback over the next couple of weeks:eek:Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
The danger with these sorts of diets is binging on the days where you don't restrict calories. As long as you actually do eat "normally" on the normal days then this should work. Otherwise it won't and could end up causing weight gain!0

The new scientist article said that there appeared to be a link between high protein consumption and the degenrative conditions the 5:2 diet helps prevent; it hinted at a serious rethink in general diet advice (ie,we eat too much protein) . I can see that to be a real issue with a low carb diet.
That is interesting. I was wondering at what point the regular weight loss stopped!
I wasn't necessarily saying to do both (although I have been, sort of... trying.. -ish..) but yes, good point

But I find that the lack of restrictions on feast days makes binge highly unlikely, plus the fact that I can ignore what is used to pass as hunger ; I guess the Christmas food orgy will be interesting.:pI lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

I certainly don't binge either on feast days:)
I am anticipating putting on quite a few pounds over Christmas/New year though, but not too worried as will get back into the 5:2 regime in January.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
OK christmas orgy over for me, what are you going to eat today? I'm thinking of things to do with Turkey leftovers and planning a kind of tom yum soup;)0

Arghhhhh, I am so full after days of overeating.
I'm looking forward to a fast day!
Will skip breakfast and lunch tomorrow at least until I can manage a proper fast without having guests or family to feed.I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

Made my Tom Yum soup, rather pleased with it as a way to use up the left over turkey:- Tom Yum Soup
Someone was asking about breakfast - I don't generally bother, but if I really want something I have 0% fat greek yoghurt with a tiny teaspoon of honey (about 40 cals) . My friend Karen at Lavender and Lovage swears by a soft boiled egg (about 80 cals).0 -
Hi everyone, mind if I join?!
I have been doing lots of googling about this diet and have a cousin who its working out very well for, so have decided to give it a go starting next week (I know its the classic clich!, but just too many social events happening to even try to begin this yet!). Mainly I need to lose weight (3 stone overweight after having 4 kids and 40th birthday looming!) but also I have Fibromyalgia and have heard this can have a good effect on illnesses like these.
I'm a bit confused though by the 2 conflicting ideas for the 'fast' days. Some eat their 500 cals spread over the day so they dont get too many hunger pains, faints etc but the science-y bits I've read about this says that to kick start your body to produce the right hormones etc you need to completely go without food for at least 16hrs.
Which idea do you guys follow?Home Schooling mum budgeting for 2 adults, 2 teens, 2 little ones & 3 cats

Trial and error is probably the best way to find out what suits you. Everybody is different. I have no problem going without food for 22 hours, sometimes longer.0
