5:2 diet
Comments
-
I didn't have my Thursday fast day this week because I had a day off work and OH and I went out.
Next one is Monday!
I like that this diet is so flexible and if you miss a day it doesn't matter, easy to catch up again.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
I watched the Hoizon programme back in August, and thought then that the idea of a 5/2 diet was very workable, as I very rarely have breakfast, preferring my "large" meal of the day to be around 11AM to midday.
Although I get up around 6AM (to get my OH breakfast), I only ever have two cups of tea, and never feel hungry (even though I quite often go for a long walk - 6 - 10 miles) before I eat.
My OH gets home at around 5PM, and pretty much expects a meal to be ready for her (which is not too surprising given that she is the breadwinner at the moment). To be honest, I very often do not feel like eating, because I am not a person whose stomach is guided by a clock.
However, last week, I came down with a flu type virus (possibly the dreade, potentially fatal "Man flu"), and although I had my usual midday meal, I missed out on an evening meal on Thursday and Friday, and did not feel hungry (although my stomach was making some very funny noises).
Yesterday, I had breakfast at 8AM, tea and biscuits at 2PM (which I would not do if the OH was not around), and a takeaway curry at 6PM plus 2 pints of bitter.
This morning I am still around 1.7 kilos lighter than last Thursday morning, and the result of this, is that I am going to give the 5/2 diet a go this coming week, but the OH will have to appreciate that I will not be preparing her a meal for the important two days - I do need some support after all.
This is a great thread, and I think that this diet is healthy and can really work.0 -

either get her to join you ( after all the health benefits should justify it) or prepare an extra portion of dinner for the days you fast.
I try and have something ready for the kids if I'm the ne cooking, or last time, they had vegetable stir fry with rice and chicken, I only had the stir fry.I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
Am finding the 5:2 thing great when it comes to willpower. Baked 2 dozen cookies this evening, despite it being a fast day and not even a nibble - I think that's in no small part down to the fact that I know I can have one (or two!) tomorrow for my elevenses.
Half a stone down in the last month, with no major efforts. If only I'd started in August!0 -
...hello everyone...I've been lurking for a wee while and have read 90% of the thread...hubby and I are starting the 5:2 fast day tomorrow. I want to do it mostly to lose weight but also because I am now 48 and want to approach menopause healthy...hubby has issues with joint pain and inflammation.
Hubby is a fit man of 54, he is a multiple Ironman and marathon runner, I'm 48 and although I've done 6 marathons (training currently for numbers 7 and 8) - I'm at the moment still about 3 stone overweight...5' 9" and 14 stone...so although I get round these races I'm so slow.
I know that losing weight and caring for my joints will only help me achieve my goal of faster races.
We've scheduled the "fast days" for rest days or days with little training...any input would be gratefully received. :beer:0 -
have done 5 weeks of 5:2 fast days, lost around 4.9 kg, am doing gym as well for 2 days/week {burning avg. 400 cal/day}...happy with result...little down with cold/flue/dental pain so not much able to focus on this. but will try to persist0

I'm thinking of giving this a try. It would be nice to loose a bit of weight before the office Christmas party. I'e heard of somebody loosing 2 stone so I'd like a bit of that.0

What I do on fast days is only eat in the evening. My husband still wants feeding so I usually cook a chicken with new potatoes or tuna and pasta and salad. I can have some chicken or some tuna and salad so I continue my 500 calorie regime and he gets his dinner. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

Short of chopping a leg off, I very much doubt that you will lose 2 stone before your Christmas party, unless you have it at Easter.
Sorry!0 -
