Anyone who is dieting and doesn't know fat is not sugar and suger is not fat needs to go back to square 1, i have raised that very problem earlier in the thread - you may want to go back and read all the way thorugh it to save you repeating things again..

    .

Sugars and fats start out different but fructose tends to end up batting for the other side

Fructose requires a different metabolic pathway than other carbohydrates because it basically skips glycolysis (normal carbohydrate metabolism). Because of this, fructose is an unregulated source of “acetyl CoA,” or the starting material for fatty acid synthesis. This, coupled with unstimulated leptin levels, is like opening the flood gates of fat deposition.

    What? Like meat and vegetables?
Yes cooked so that the amount of useable nutrients is way down on what you think it should be How much of the essential proteins and fats did you think were in there? how much vitamin C do you think is in that meal?

So a meal consisting mainly of lamb, potatoes and spinach is not a nutritionally balanced meal?

I don't know what your agenda is or why you fell the need to try to rubbish everyone else's posts but I'm sorry, the results speak for themselves. Or are we all lying for some strange reason.

Do you have any legitimate qualifications in this field or do you just find information on the internet that fits with your views and ignore/rubbish anything that you don't like?

The body will use up its fat reserves as energy if it doesnt get enough cals in, obviously thats why we lose weight in the first place.

Personally, id prefer to eat a spinach curry and be short on cals one day than to eat the equivalent in chips

Even if Im dieting which I currently am, I try my very best to get in enough fruit and veg, I dont eat meat and I dont eat dairy and some people wouldnt have my diet in a million years

And yes, you dont get much nutrition from white rice, white pasta and potatoes, but as long as you whole diet isnt made up of processed carbs and junk, you'll be ok.

Im not really one for taking supplements either but if people have to, they have to

Id rather eat what I eat than see people around me scoffing chips, burgers, pies and I do see that a lot of the time.

I think few peoples diets are 100 per cent nutritionally sound every day of the week, theres always going to be something someone needs more or less of

very healthy meal. I can't believe the other poster asked how much vitamin c is in that meal. Stupid question/comment. Most vitamins are destroyed when cooking anyway

Mr helpful....I'd say there was plenty enough nutrients off the curry for a low calorie day, or maybe the potatoes could be swapped for butternut squash? I don't know, I'd have to experiment. That is just one example of a meal, but it's the kind of thing we like to eat anyhow, so it's definetly no hardship sticking to the 5:2 diet, and you'll get a chance to get more nutrients on the other days. In my opinion, I think it's one of the more healthier diets.

Not having a go or anything, but I'd be genuinely interested to hear what your diet is like.

That was my point though its not just vitamins so are proteins and other nutrients even good fats get corrupted by heat. tasty does not equal nutritious.
Pauline. Your first line is partially correct but a body in starvation mode will hang on to as much fat as possible and have a go at protein. Of course if you starve yourself you will lose weight but do you want to be like a POW in the jap camps and do you know what happened when the survivors were released.
Georgiegirl. I dont have a diet as such because time and time again they dont work long time. I lost 4 inches off my waist by eating more organic stuff and strangely i lost the craving for nutritionally dead calories. The nearest thing to what I advise is teh Jon Gabriel method you can google it if you like but I am in no way connected to him and receive no payment for recommending his approach. It is just a way of eating that actually makes sense.

If you are not advocating a method or regime or anything then in what context were you referring to the regime of one of 'Our clients'?

    It's all pretty confusing!

Anyway, I'm going to go back to doing what I do by myself and with my doctors now, because its all too contentious here. It's shame because its helpful to have the support of others following the programmes even if their aims and ends and other methods are slightly different.

Stick with this and don't let him/her drive you away. As I said before, who actually dissects every molecule in their food! the average person knows roughly what is good or bad for them and are not obsessed with it like him/her! It would drive you nuts to constantly work out if this reacted with that or have I had enough of that vitamin!

Don't forget everyone is different, we don't all react to foods in the same way, my friend had more calcium for her bones then got gall
stones! To understand food in-depth takes a lot of research that the normal person is not interested in, and most people on here seems to know what is good or bad, we are not scientists!!

If he/she gave advice rather than derogatory comments maybe it would be helpful and finally, take a look at his/her previous posts on other topics, they too have told him/her to !!!!!! off! Sorry for rant, probably due to starving myself:o

I'm pretty 'lucky' in that because of my rather complicated health problems my diet is a big focus and has been for ten years. So I get quite a lot of good focused help for me (which would be useless for other people as my body is odd:rotfl:). That five two has helped was really interesting to my neurologist in particular, and I reported that back here, because she was doubtful. The gastroenterologist I've been seeing is really interested and positive on how intermittent fasting on a different regime might be a different long term plan for me in particular Not just IF but a particular timing of eating and fasting with a circadian rhythm of fast. As he says, 'why fight what works for your set of issues'? And he's right. I have always been most happy as what I call a 'snake eater'. :)

But the point is my advice is being given for me by qualified people who can see me and take tests and understand the full complexity of a health profile.

Nobody is starving themselves, how many times do you trolls have to be told it takes far more than 24 hours of a calorie deficit for the starvation response to kick in. I don't believe you are that stupid so I can only take it you are trolling because you need attention, did mummy not hug you enough when you was lickle?
