With 5:2 I can eat normally for 5 days a week, have take away, eat out, have treats as normal, as pre 5:2.
I only have to think about it for 2 days a week which is very easy.
I have lost over a stone and my blood pressure has come down significantly, my wife has lost nearly 3 stone.
On fast days we tend to eat one meal in the evenings and just have drinks such as Bovril during the day if feeling peckish, (and that's all it is, never full hunger!)
Anyone looking for meal ideas we use The Hairy Dieters cook book, lots of very nice meals for 300 - 500 calories.
Thanks for the link to the hairy dieters book. I remember watching that programme, and it was interesting, and they did really well.
I was going to buy it off Amazon, but checked on EBay and bought an ebook for £1.49!
Well done to you and your wife btw!0 -
Those of us who have to live on supplemented diets and are well monitored know how tricky this really can be. Calcium in that study was only of benefit if the people were deficicient. (Although I do agree than many people might be deficient due to dietary fads I think five two is not going to be the worst culprit for that)
Iron in excess can be toxic, like many of the other supplements. Magnesium, the supplement de jour, is causing problems for a few people being offered in excess by alternative practisers. ( often in combination with calcium).
Indeed, most food is a 'double edged sword' beneficial in moderation, damaging in excess. A bit like fasting. Good it seems in moderation, not great in excess. And probably a bit like interest in food and diet, very beneficial in moderation, and a mental illness in excess.0 -

I'm just thinking back to when he did one of his previous diets (could have been weight watchers?) and that was the case then.
no they are not 'free' as they might be on green days with SW. the advantage with veg is that they are not packed with calories, provided you dont cook them in fat, so you can fill your plate up and consequently your tum, for less calories.
you have to be careful with fruit on low cal days and ensure you count the calories. Bananas are fairly high in calories compared to the same weight of say strawberries/raspberries.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
I have lost around 1lb a week and am almost where I need to be, I save my 500 calories for one big meal about 7pm and prefer to do this as I don't get hungry throughout day and 500 calories can produce a huge meal. I eat couscous and veg, loads of salads and fish, which is easy for me because that is normal food on the 5 feed days anyway. If it works for you then do it, don't explain your reasons to someone who is not going to agree with you anyway! I would say that if you all asked your friends if they could list all the nutrients in their daily diet, they wouldn't have a clue, and that most of them probably wouldn't care! I have found this way of eating has worked for me and all of you inspirational:T so please don't keep explaining yourselves to those who clearly are not interested, and if I might say, Mr helpful sounds a little obsessed with it all, don't you think!0

ThanksWe've been eating grapes as a snack....I'll have to check out how any calories are in them.
That's our problem (not so much me as I'm not on the diet, but still!), munching on snacks throughout the evening. It's difficult for my DH to cut them out, but to still find something that will fill a gap, but still stick within the 600 calorie limit.
He's only been on the diet for about 2-3 weeks, so he's still finding his feet with it.
ETA: Already received my Hairy Dieters ebook through. There are really good recipes in it.0 -

I think he's finding it easier than he thought he would, but it's finding different things to eat so it doesn't get samey and so he doesn't get sick of eating just the same things all the time on the low calorie days.
Congrats on the weight loss btw, it sounds like its really working well for you!
Thank You!
I was the same, I struggled for a bit to find something nice to eat without eating the same stuff over and over (at one point I'd have scrambled eggs on toast for every meal on fast days)
There are quite a few recipes knocking round on here but I'm sure there are plenty online elsewhere too.
One thing that makes me happy about it being summer and hot weather is I can pile my plate high with salad and still have loads of calories left over. I usually have it with some fish, we've been getting the frozen fillets of tuna and pink salmon from Aldi and they're delicious and about 150cals or less.0 -

so per week, 5 x 2500 calories plus 2 x 600 = 13700 calories per week
why not just eat 13700 calories divided by 7 days = 1957 calories per day??? more balance! not having stupid starvation days!
Why not mind your own business. You wont get the hormonal benefits and your body will get used to it adjust your calorific needs and stop losing weight. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Weighed in the evening instead of the usual morning?
Just spotted that.
You should always weigh yourself in similar conditions; I'm always heavier in the evening. So scales are first thing in the morning after the morning pee:DI lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
Was going to post these last night but didn't have time.
These are some of the meals we eat when we are "starving" ourselves.
All these come in at about 500 calories with the rice/noodles. As you can see we are hardly going short.0 -
Thank You!

We get those frozen fillets of salmon too
I'll have a check around for some more recipes!0
