19st8lbs and 6ft, 15% body fat (acceptable) BMI 37% (obese), can't both be right.

BMI doesn't take into account muscle mass, which is denser than fat.

I have a Personal Trainer friend who is soooo buff! I can't see any fat on him (though I suppose there must be a small amount here and there), but his BMI makes him obese because of his muscle mass.

I still have a bit of gut though that needs shifting.

And that's fine. You recognise it, so you can change it. :)

BMI is a fairly useless statistic and should be ignored ;)

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't using this to lose weight, as it is my immediate goal. But I am looking at 8/16 fasting as a long term lifestyle change, to get my weight right down and the health benefits ie lower blood sugar.

I made sure to eat more yesterday and no ill effects today. Despite multiple bathroom trips (it happens) this morning which emptied me out, i'm half an hour into my allotted eating time and not had my sandwich yet! Could be i've not been sat at home this morning, bored, but up at 8am, out at 10, Hospital and errands, getting home at 1:30pm.

Although I was lethargic and very hungry yesterday, I knew I wasn't in any danger. My danger sign is weakness and dizziness which happens after a flare (without TMI I am totally emptied out, and takes 1-5 days to keep food in again with gentle nursery like food!). When that hits I know it's time to stop trying to eat again naturally, slowly, and to start the pills which will help me out of the flare and into retaining food again. Usually I try to get myself out of them without the meds, but if I need them, I take them.

While I aim to maintain a fasting lifestyle I will of course stop after a flare because after those my body tells me eat, eat, and eat so I would be foolish to ignore it.

So fingers crossed at the moment it's going well. And after the scales at the Hospital :( I need to be doing something.

Female 40yrs old, 83kg, I look and feel slim at 70kg so have a fair amount to lose, I multiplied my BMR by 1.375 which is exercise 1-3 times a week which I do, I get about by walking or cycling including to work and back every day which is a round trip of about five miles. i never catch buses as I can't bear to part with the money when my legs work just as well!

I only used 1.2 as a multplier as I don't do 'exercise' as such. However, I am pretty active, never use lifts or drive if the distance is only a mile or two.
I think if I was 8 stone something like Mr Gs wife I would look poorly and emaciated if I could even physically manage it.

    When I was 16 1/2 stone, I thought I would look emaciated at 14st. Surprise, surprise, I don't. :)

Mrs G has a small frame and, IMHO, doesn't look particularly poorly or emaciated either.

Do you know you're quite right, I have no idea what I would look like at 8 stone something because I've never been there, well not yet anyway .

Your wife looks amazing :), maybe I've got a small frame too under all this fat!

Thanks for replying sammyjammy, you could be right.

I've just counted how many calories I've had up until today, (started alternate day fasting on Monday) and have had a total of 3881 so far. (Still to have an evening meal tonight).

I love having a glass of semi skimmed cold milk before going to bed and couldn't believe how many calories were in that!

Also, does anyone know how this would affect someone who has an under active thyroid, would it just make it harder for them to lose weight?

The headaches could be from the lack of food in which case your body just needs to adjust or it could be that you're not drinking enough, really important to keep your fluids up on a fast day.
