  • I started the 5.2 diet in late November I wasn't that overweight I wanted to loose a little and get the health benefits, I also wanted to stop feeling like I had no energy all the time, I wasn't tired I just had no get up and go. I have lost over a stone it's slow but sure and I feel so good I have even started working out again something I have not had the energy to do. On a fast day I never eat until after 4pm then I have a coffee and a carrot and houmous dip or similar for tea its chicken and spring veg or Tuna Salad or similar, I also fit a jaffa cake into my 500 cals. I won't say I am never hungry on a fast day but :) the effects I feel are so much worth it.

It may be that the reason you got fat was because you were fasting too much and your body went into an emergency mode and started storing fat. This is exactly what happened to me in my early 20s when I tried a week long fast.

I don't think I can blame my body. It was me... eating too much! :p

Elantan - when I fast I have a light meal at 7pm and then the next day I have the 500 cals, usally lunch and dinner or just one big meal at dinner, then get up the next day and eat normally. So yeah, about 36hours with just the 500 cals.

I presume that's how most of us are doing it. Some people have a fasting window say from 7am to 7pm and then eat. But I think with the 5:2 you give yourself 1 full day of eating very little (just the 500 cals).

Hope I have explained that right.

yes you have thanks :) i'm just wondering if this would benefit me for cognative function improvement, i had a tia last year and my cognative function has suffered due to it

i work night shift so i dont think this would be too hard for me to do either

Was meant to be a fast day, kinda staggered through it.

    1 x ginger beer 73kcals
    6 x chewit like sweets 150kcals?
    1 x fish salad 250kcals

Shouldn't have had the sugar, but kinda happy I didn't fall off the wagon completely which I would normally do.

Doing 3 fasts this week, M/W/F, to see how doable it is and want to have a few beers at the weekend without feeling guilty. Today was harder than Monday, but wasn't unbearable, just have to keep busy.

The day after my first fast:

Woke up starving (and v tired as couldn't get to sleep!), fancied toast but hadn't made any bread and old loaf mouldy. Had a cup of tea and a homemade oatcake with hazelnut butter and a couple of biscuits. Would've had porridge but only enough milk for my Nan to have breakfast. Very bad planning!

Worked for a few hours this morning, did feel hungry and was very ready for lunch when I got home. Didn't actually have loads, mackerel pate and Jacob's flatbreads.

Realised I had over 1,200 calories left for the day so defrosted a double portion of beef bhuna and had that with poppadoms and mango pickle. Still 600 calories left so had a chewy fruit and nut bar with a cup of tea.

Really don't want to eat anything else and still have 500 remaining.

I thought I would be food obsessed today and not caring what I ate but I still thought twice about everything and could have happily eaten less than I have. 2nd fast day tomorrow and plan on roasting a load of veg and holding out until lunch.

Hope everyone else is doing okay. :D

I'm so sorry but I have no idea what a tia is :o But as for the cognative function improvement, excuse the pun, but if my memory serves me well :p hunger is one of the few times your brain creates new brain cells. If you watch the documentry brain function is discussed at different parts. Reactions improve, but that was doing more dramatic version of fasting and then the new brain cells.

You can only try 5:2 and see how you get on I guess

Ooh and get medical advice - if I don't say it, Andrea will only come on and post it ;):p

So tomorrow is my 2nd fast day. Going to be much more careful tomorrow and make sure I drink loads of water. Unfortunately, only just finished tonight's meal -would have preferred to have had it around 6pm, but it was not to be. I will definately have to split up my 500 calories into possibly 2 meals, so that I can take my painkillers. I am interested to see how this one will turn out after Monday's experience.

  • Superpup - sorry to hear you had no sleep. I have the opposite to you, I have the best sleep ever when I have fasted. It's one of the things I look forward too, sleeping. Hopefully on your next fast it won't feel so bad. But well done getting through Fast Day 1 :T

Daedalus - Well done for not falling off the wagon and good luck for your 3 fast days this week. You are hardcore my friend ;)

Got my fast day tomorrow. Was kinda dreading it after a terrible Monday fast, but I should be fine and dandy tomorrow. Got all my food planned out. Tomatoe and basil soup for lunch and then king prawn noodle salad for dinner. Should leave me with 100 cals for later if I fancy it.

Good luck to everyone else fasting tomorrow :T

Good luck :T It does get easier .... for me it's knowing that I am going to have a fast free weekend helps me get through a Thursday fast. I am splitting my cals up tomorrow too. It works better for me.
