So, yesterday was hellish:eek::mad:. I've been fasting now for 4 weeks and all my previous fasts have been ok, I've only had a headache on one fast. Apart from that I have felt great. But yesterday was a totally different kettle of fish. Headache, light headed, dizzy, tired etc However, I know why, it was day 1 of TOTM and I wondered if any other ladies have had a similar experience during a menstrual cycle?? I am comtemplating if I should just not fast that week at all, or just pick 1 day that week, so 6:1 ...... really would appreciate other experiences.

I hope you are feeling better today. My 1st fast day was yesterday. It wasn't really the hunger that got the better of me, it was the headache and then this awful bloated feeling that I had all through the night. I am currently trying to recover from a really bad slipped disc (which is part of the reason I want to lose some weight and hopefully gain better health). My poor DH was up half the night with me, fetching hot water bottles etc. The pain in my back (kidney area) was like nothing I have ever experienced before, although I have been unwell since Christmas.

I am not having another fast day until Thursday and I will monitor how it goes then, but if I experience any of the pain I had last night -I will be straight down to my GP. This is why I think it is so important that before embarking on any diet regime, the OK from a GP is so important. I am not sure what happened with me last night, whether it was purely the pain from my slipped disc or something else. I do think I may have another underlying problem which has made it hard for me to recover from my back problem. I am not to keen on troubling my GP often, as I have had problems for 20 years or so and know (usually) how to deal with it, but for some reason yesterday's fast seems to have upset things.

This morning I woke up feeling awful, but had my usual fruit smoothie and then a few hours later a poached egg on wholemeal toast. I must admit I do feel a bit better, but I have taken extra painkillers. This experience has taught me a lesson, I will if I can continue to follow the plan, but I won't if I experience anything like I did last night.

Sorry for the long post, Old Socks old Stick do take care.

PS I am going through the Men*pause

I'm really sorry to hear that you had such a bad day. I'm not a doctor, but if you were drinking normally, it seems really strange that just one day of eating less than normal would cause a reaction like that - please don't put it down just to the fast, it doesn't sound right so don't put off going to the doctor.

elizabunny tyllwyd is right - get to your doctor's & see what he thinks. Its too easy to explain away various symptoms especially when you get to 'a certain age'
I'm past it (in more ways than one - haha) & I havn't had any problems with the 5:2 so far - fingers crossed but I think you should give it a miss until you are certain there's nothing else underlying.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • First fast today and so far have only had black tea. Hopefully will make it to tea- tbh don't feel massively hungry! Am looking forward to re-learning what hunger feels like to help me on feast days. :)

Thank you tyllwyd and silvasava, I really appreciate your comments. I know I do tend to kick things under the carpet a bit, particularly when it comes to health, but don't worry I don't intend to go through another night like the one I had last night.
I am just eating normally today and do feel better at the moment, thank goodness. I think I might need an MOT though.

Exactly the same here! Mine was last week and supposed to fast on thursday but just gave up in end as felt so rough. Would appreciate other ideas too as dont really want to have one week a month messed up due to hormones etc :( Feel like I'm starting all over again this week, so annoying!

I'm due to fast again on Thursday but *touch wood* I should be ok. I don't think I will ever let myself do another Day 1 TOTM fast ever again. I do think my body require more energy than 500 cals on day 1. I was surprised just how hellish it was. I fasted whilst I had PMT and sailed through it so I thought yesterday would be a doddle, how wrong I was :rotfl: I will just do a one day fast for when this time comes again, I won't lose anything (which is fine by me) but I will maintain.

First off, have one of these dodgy looking :grouphug:

Sounds like it could be something a bit more, like everyone else has suggested I would suggest medical advice too just to rule out you don't have a kidney infection on the way. If you decided to fast on Thursday if the pain and bloating feelings come back I would just eat as normal, don't go to bed in pain like that again. Hope you are feeling much better today :kisses3:

Yesterday was hellish for me too! I have fasted since the Horizon programme aired, so almost 6 months, and yesterday was the first time I cracked and continued to eat after my meal. (I have had 2 x two week planned breaks, for summer hols and Xmas.)

I didn't even have the TOTM excuse - I was just feeling extremely emotional and as I was home alone, I made a decision to swap days. Maybe it was something in the stars, eclipse or... not the full moon, as that was the day before, early Sun morning.

I normally do fast throughout TOTM and usually have no problems. If you think you'll be better off with omitting a fast during that time, then go for it. Personally, I would wait and see, but that's because I don't suffer from PMS or any other symptoms on a regular basis, so every time is a bit different for me.
    Cogito, ergo sum.

Oh my word! So a few of us yesterday had bad days, don't know if the smiley should be :( or this :rotfl:. You know what Jei, you might be right, it could have something to do with the stars. Oh well, lets hope all our second fast days go much better than yesterday :T
  • Hi Everyone:wave:

Today has been my 1st day of doing the 5:2 Diet,

But i have 1 question, If i started my fast day after having Dinner last night at 5pm then should my fast day be over as its now (7pm) or should i carry on till breakfast tomorrow?

Im thinking it's over now, so i can have a cuppa & rich tea biccy before bed, But i think i could stretch it out till the morning.
My mind tends to wander............If found please return;)

    I can spell...................I just cant type:confused:
