Is this not what they call demagogy? Scales do not have to lock anything. However, they can easily, say, beep if your weight exceeds the limit you set, and I am sure most modern scales do this.

Ah, well, Grumbler old chum, what you are proposing is a "text alert" solution. Mine is a "cap" solution.

The problem with your suggestion is that the beep is actually telling the person what they can already see, but my suggestion is like a cap or credit gone solution, or even the "speed limiters" that can be set on modern cars.

Bound to be a winner.

    Given monthly/30 day cycles

    Orange payg do 25 mins a day for £1 & £5

3 payg do 500 mins for £25 with unlimited texts

Kids should never be handed a mobile contract

Even on o2 Unlimited a 12 month sim only is £20pm at the moment, but you still have to police non 01/02/03/07 numbers & mms (picture/media texts) usage which can easily spend hundreds of pounds on

I blame Ofcom even adults run up UK massive bills, where a mobile provider can charge way beyond any landline provider for the same calls ?. There is a lack of regulation, we can be thankful for Europe has done in reducing our costs that Ofcom would have allowed to continue.

Why should anyone with a data allowance pay a charge for a mms ? Your phone is uploading data you already paid for....

    example....o2 25p per mms.

Mobile phone users will always be "stung" in the UK one way or another, Ofcom are more about self regulation not social mobility & everyone should have the right to access/communicate regardless of financial position.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

Never give a child or teen a contract phone. PAYG is the only safe way to go.

Very sound advice. This forum is full of people bemoaning huge bills their children run up.

and apparently the world is full of people who will never learn to take responsibility for themselves.

We don't know the age of this teenager, but do bear in mind that 'children' are legally allowed to marry, or join the armed forces at 16 years old. They can legally be armed with a car at 17 - and that is a lethal weapon in irresponsible hands.
To say they should NEVER be allowed to have phone contracts is ridiculous.
It is, however, a parent's job to guide and advise their child. In this case, the parent should have made sure the daughter knew how to check her contract balance, and should also take a look now and then to oversee it - esp if she is a younger teen.

Children learn responsibility by being given responsibility, and should have the consequences of not behaving responsibly pointed out to them at the start. They should also be fully equipped with the tools they need to act appropriately - in this case parent should have made sure daughter knew how to check her balance.

OP, Vodafone really doesn't have any responsibility to reduce the costs incurred. You took on the contract, you should have known the terms and costs which could arise. For your sake I hope they will, more likely they will arrange a payment plan for you. But I hope you have learned from this too. Make sure daughter knows HOW to manage her account, and keep a light watchful eye to help her.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

But WHY is it Vodafones responsibility to check who your daughter is speaking to at night????

    .....

If you can't see a moral issue with Vodafone 'knowingly' allowing minors to spend £1300 per month (on £5 worth of facility) without confirmation then it's something only age and wisdom will teach you

That why we need judges, because some companies (and people) can not differentiate between right & wrong without guidance

three on the other hand always send me a text before i reach my credit limit of £50 and after just to remind me , i wouldn't be able to afford to pay over £50 so it reminds me i need to stop using it

Not hard is it - all companies should do this

they will eventually legislate for a maximum liability of a mobile phone bill - and then it will be 'in the companies best interest' to keep the user informed if they want to get paid

Simply we should all be allowed to set a "credit" limit, maybe 10-15% above our priceplan cost.

You can set/raise/lower your overdraft, credit cards etc, why not mobile phone accounts ?

    Ofcon strikes gain...

    Are you for real?

Have a look at the tariffs offered in Ireland for example.... and that's just for starters. Then look at the rest of the world and you'll see we have some of the best value tariffs on the planet.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

They allow their pay monthly customers that are 18+, not minors.

Best tariffs or best out-of-allowance charges? What do the 'best tariffs' have to do with the topic of this thread?
