It's not the card,it's the start of a PSU failure in the box.Sky are getting wise to people threatening to cancel now & are often calling customers bluff when they ring up.

wonder if it also depends on factors such as being in a cable area.
I would bet they are more likely to play ball, knowing people have an option
  • I have had this box for about 4 years with nothing going wrong till now. Maybe should try and ring up and see what they can do for me

They'll offer you a service call for £65 & a reconditioned STB.You may get offered a new HD box if you upgrade at an added cost of the HD sub.

i think that you can upgrade through sky from sky + box to the hd box. Looks like its £15 using self set up

    http://www.sky.com/shop/customer-shop/box-upgrade/

you will then get the free hd channels (bbc, itv, C4, 5 and a few others)

I tried this link to upgrade from my old Sky+ box and its not just £15 self set up, they also want £199 for the box. I dont want the HD pack, just a new box, but I cant afford £199.

I just alternate between Virgin and Sky, and get one year deals when I switch. I'm on my second Sky+HD box, so I have one for spare, which acts as a FreeSat STB.

I know it's not EXACTLY the same as FreeSat, to pedants who care about the difference.
  • I had a letter from sky recently offering me a replacement sky hd box for free, which I took up.
My old box was 4 yrs old too and starting to play up.
Maybe worth calling them and see if you can get the same offer. We just had to do the set up ourselves for the offer to be free

That was a one off to replace the old phase HD box that couldn't work with On Demand service.

Well it's really only £123 (+£15 delivery) if you take HD pack at £10.25/month, then cancel it after a year. or you can go the e-bay route.
