You will probably be sent a new viewing card-but your subscription will not change to HD unless you agree to it.I have a defective sky+ box my friend has a sky hd box he says I can have. my question is can I use the hd box and put in my sky plus card and ask sky to pair them together staying on sky+without subscribing to hd
If you have an HD television you will gain access to the free HD channels regardless.0 -
Yes you can simply just swap the boxes over & put you own card in the HD box, then call up & have the card paired. You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0

If you're Sky box is connected to the phone, then you can pair the card without calling Sky by going thru the installer set up menu.

You will almost certainly NOT get a new card sent out - they do not replace cards willy nilly unless they are notified of a fault on them.Moneyineptitude wrote: »You will probably be sent a new viewing card-but your subscription will not change to HD unless you agree to it.

And the existing card is immediately deactivated as soon as the new one is sent out to prevent the old one being given away/used in a non subscription Sky box IIRC.0 -
My existing white sky+ is starting to play up. Having failed recording and slow to switch on. Is it best to just buy second hand or ring up to see if you can get an new hd box. Dont really want to sign up to HD at the minute either.0

You'll only be offered a new HD box if you agree to pay the HD sub I'm afraid. My existing white sky+ is starting to play up. Having failed recording and slow to switch on. You can pay Sky £65 and they'll replace your box (if it can't be repaired) with a reconditioned one.
Probably cheaper to purchase one on E-Bay, though...0 -
Was thinking of doing this. Also i am out of contract with sky at the minute should i try and cancel0

i think that you can upgrade through sky from sky + box to the hd box. Looks like its £15 using self set up

you will then get the free hd channels (bbc, itv, C4, 5 and a few others)0 -

It's not the card,it's the start of a PSU failure in the box.Sky are getting wise to people threatening to cancel now & are often calling customers bluff when they ring up.0
