Just been on a salting expedition..They are everywhere...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Previous years we've grown veg in pots and snails have been the problem.
This year OH knocked down the back shed that was built on soil, added manure and some top soil, planted out and we've been plagued by slugs ! He goes out collecting them 3 times a day and they're never ending!
Is there anyway we can stop them coming back next year ? We were wondering if the manure was half the problem. If it is would a cold winter prevent the same thing happening next year ?
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

I had a courgette plant potted in the greenhouse but it developed a bad case of mildew. Saved a good harvest from it but put it outside yesterday morning. Just been out and the whole plant has been obliterated. No real loss, just amazed at the damage over 1 night:eek:

Yes mine go to the chickens too

My Daughter's chickens must be choosy then as they just ignore the slugs. I have even squished the slugs to make life easier but no, they will not touch them.

Our chickens won't touch slugs, either. Spoiled, I shouldn't wonder!

I don't mind snails, we don't get too many of them, but can't stand slugs, I keep putting mine in the brown wheelie bin as don't know what else to do with them!

Why is it that farmers can plant huge fields of produce and be fairly confident of harvesting most of it? What do they know that we dont?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

    Pesticides.

Re slugs, in not killing them and chucking them to the same place peoe are creating slug pick up joints and maternity wards both.

This year has been something else for slugs, there were very, very few when we arrived at this house two years ago, and this year there have been many hundred. I do not use slug pellets, but i will kill them.

My chickens, do not like slugs, infact most shiow significant fear or repulsion of them, but they will eat sloworms or deas mice the cats bring them, so i don't think they are inordinately fussy.

I am considering getting a trio of call ducks for the slugs.

    Pesticides.

I think it's also easier to control slugs in a field where there are not many places for them to hide. They love hiding under stones and debris.

At the risk of sounding unnecessarily cruel, I've found that if a slug is somewhere inconvenient for squashing, sticking a sharp twig through it proves fatal.
