No, not at all. I fully expect to pay for it but my question was should I get in contact with the company or wait for them to realise their error. I didn't know it could be upto 6 years so if I haven't heard from them soon I will get in touch.

As it's a credit card there's no great need for you to do anything, if it had been a debit card then you would have needed to ensure the money was always in the account. The only thing you might have to worry about is if you use the credit card to buy something else and there isn't enough credit left on it when the payment request finally does come through - even then, that wouldn't be an issue for you, as you've already got what you bought.
My understanding is that while the retailer does have 6 years to claim the payment (it won't be governed by UK laws but I believe consumer legislation is pretty standard across the EU) generally the CC company won't accept the original transaction if it's more than 6 months old, and would require your consent to confirm the payment.0 -

Up to 6 years to take the money is correct in the UK (really can't be certain without further research if its different outside of the UK like this is.).
The company will likely contact you - in due course, if the non present transaction is declined (the pre-authorisation they have made would have expired by now).
If they haven't been in touch after 90 days then I would let them know...if you so wish.0 -

Repeatedly wrong yet? I have debit card transactions take 7+ days after auth and 1 or 2 CC transactions 3 months later.

It varies by bank, it can be up to 30 days - if you had 3 months later then I would be questioning how as this is beyond the limit laid out by visa/master card unless of course it was a recurrent payment setup to circumvent the authorisation time limits.0
