Ok this is my last post on the subject, some of the replies have been helpful and considerate, most have been downright nasty and malicious, no wonder this forum has a bad name.

The tv is now up for sale on a face book group so clap your hands with glee those nasty ones, this means no sky and no licence to pay for, my lap top is also up for sale so no Internet to pay for, I seriously hope all those who preach about how those on low income have to sit in the house all day with nothing to look at, no Internet or phone to keep in touch with the outside world will practice what they preach if the time ever comes.

this forum doesnt have a bad name,if it did far fewer would use it,some people just dont help themselves with their attitude,OP your basic problem is that you expect outgoings to be counted, the simple fact is that they arent, get over to the debt free wannabe forum for help on reducing your outgoings is the only real advice you need.

There's something wrong here with OP's finances that I just can't work out. I've recently done all the sums for me and the wife because I've got to give up work to look after her fulltime soon. And I've done it through the benefits website benefit checker so I assume it's correct and I reckon it won't be easy but it's doable. Incidentally our rent is £200 more per month than OP!
    Based on my experience, OP........
Stop the loan repayments and apply for a DRO
Tell your husband to give up work formally to become your fulltime carer. And get the CA transferred to him.
Appeal your ESA. You've been downgraded under the new rules by the look of it. With double incontinence you MAY be eligible for the support group.
Your husband will also get some income based IS which means your prescriptions will be paid. (I don't understand why you don't have a season ticket anyway).
You will then get HB and CTB to add to your high rate DLA.

Apply to Social Services to see if you are eligible for personalised funding for you and your husband as your carer.

If I can do it you can. (And I don't get my car paid for)

I find this incredible in this day and age and think it unfair that people are expected to have nothing to make life a bit more pleasant, no wonder there is so much depression in this country.

Why the hell should the rest of us pay for your loans and Sky TV?

Some of the replies to this post are just incredible, someone makes a statement and it turns into a witch hunt! Rifling through her profile and posts in the hope you can "catch her out", going on about how she wants YOUR money to pay for a LAVISH lifestyle, her OH works so is also a tax payer for gods sake, it's as bad as those who say to a policeman I pay your wages!

Some of you really are a nasty bunch and act as if you can feed a family of 1O on a tenner a week, I reckon most of the nasty replies come from those just jumping on the I am so good bandwagon and think it will make them look like a model citizen doing the right thing for their country when in reality they are claiming every benefit they can, working tax credit comes to mind, are those who claim that sponging fools taking all the tax payers money?

It gets my back up so much when someone gets jumped on like this, made to look like a scrounger when in my opinion that's not the case at all, all you goody two shoes out there, if you lose your jobs or maybe for a lot of you, your benefits, hope you practice what you preach and....

    A) get another bloody job, take no notice of all the unemployment out there, members of MSE have told you there are jobs around for all so go get one

    B) stop paying your bills, get rid of your cars, your tv, your phone and Internet, all you need is a bed to sleep in and the most basic of food, don't worry about healthy eating, as long as you have a loaf of bread and your rent is paid that's all you need.

I know you are being sarcastic but, sorry, yes that IS all you need.

i really do hope your joking with this post and just biting

I understand some of what your going through , its difficult i know but i think what is important is managing your condition and managing your finances.

I am in a situation that i no longer get money because my oh earns to much and apparently i am not disabled enough for dla . we have had to ajust our lifestyle but we manage on 280 a week , we just have to limit ourselves and not spend money on things we do not need.

you might want to consider if spending money on pads, mattress protectors washing clothes etc is too much looking at alternatives there are plenty out there .

ignore people who moan about you having sky phone internet, people will always begrudge someone because of something however if your finding that you cannot afford to eat then you need to look at alternatives freeview ,freesat mobile dongle etc some areas you may just need sky (my flat won't get freeview despite the "new ariel" so sky was our only option but its worth speaking to them to see if your getting the right package , if your paying for 170 channels but only watch say 10 of them then it may be worth getting lower.

It its hard to give up things that you once were able to afford therefore learnt to take for granted and don't see as luxurious any longer BUT moaning about out is what gets people to react the way they do because the way to cope with the situation its not expecting others to subsidise for what had been lost but to accept that work IS what posts for those things. Yes it is hard to find work to afford those things but if there is no incentive left to work to be able to afford those taken for granted luxuries what motivation is left for those who do go to work? OP, to feel sorry for yourself for what you've lost or might have to lose is ok but your energy and that of your partner should be turned towards what you can do to find more work for him not how you can get the same working less regardless of the fact out its not his fault he now had less income. Many things happen to people through no fault of theirs it doesn't mean they should be compensated fully for their loss indefinitely. I hope your husband finds more hours shortly so you can look forward to a more comfortable life.

Iluvmarmite - I think most people were hitting round ideas to give the OP some feedback as to how to cut her outgoings, rather than criticising. That was certainly my intention anyway.

You can have a good many channels with free view without paying £6/week to sky. I would see £24/month as quite an expenditure.

The phone and internet at £10/week is rather high too, especially with so many companies offering cheaper services too. Guess these can only be achievable if the OP is now out of contract though.

Same with Gas/Electric, maybe these could be cut down a wee bit if she was more careful with it. It's hard but can be done. I am forever running around turning things off.

I think what gets people's backs up is that the OP is expecting more than she's already getting, which is a bit more than some people get.

As for the comments for the husband to give up work, it's not advisable, especially as the net is being pulled very tight around people claiming ESA and/or DLA. I believe cutting back is the only way to go with things. Especially when you're unable to work.

I've been reading this thread with interest and I think the OP has been offered some excellent advice on reducing her outgoings which I think could help her enormously, if she follows it.
But what I can't understand is why she thinks housing benefit should take expenditure into account in the first place. Housing benefit is there as a safety net, to help you pay rent and stop you being homeless, the only outgoing it needs to take to into account is how much the rent is.
Your salary/other benefits are there to take care of the other outgoings.
OP, you don't have to sell your television, that's just being ridiculous but whether you like it or not SKY tv is a luxury that even many people working full time cannot afford. So if you can't afford it give it up and just have the channels available on Freeview.
And yes, there are lots of good deals around for internet if you do a bit of research. I'm paying £32 a month for my landline and broadband with BT Infinity.
