But that does mean that the OP doesn't have to fund the running of a car, loan payments and depreciation out of her £300+ income a week, like someone working would have to do.

Don't get too excited about the second bit as it's wrong. Why would you get DLA care to cover additional washing costs and then get an allowance for it somewhere else?

    Pure fantasy.

Where on earth did I say anything about the running of the car or loan payments? I was correcting Spamfree on their total misconception of getting a free car. Don't forget the OPs husband is working, albeit he's sick at the moment, or not sick as the case me be with regards to the fit notes.

Why would I get excited? I am not on DLA. But it would make sense for those who live in a higher water rates area to get a wee bit extra that way. I really had no idea that water rates were so expensive down south. I knew they were more expensive as I used to live in Brighton, but have been home for a good few years now, I had no idea they were as expensive as the OP stated.

    Sigh....

The OP originally said that she received a certain amount per week and didn't mention the fact that she received either DLA Care or Mobility - the assumption being that this money had to cover either travel by public transport or running a car. As it turns out, she receives extra money on top of this from DLA which funds a Motability car. As she doesn't have to pay for the running of this car (or for a car loan or for depreciation) out of the money she described as her income, it's not too far off the mark to describe the car as "free".

(It's a bit like people who say they "only" get £71 per week JSA to live on and then it turns out that actually they get £150 on top of this to pay their rent and council tax.)

I know the car isn't technically a free car. It is paid for instead of getting money in the pocket every week.

However, people in the real world pay for the car, the insurance, the road tax etc themselves.

So, if the OP is so skint, she should get rid of the car and use however many hundreds a month it's worth to fund the Sky package etc ;)

I was under the impression that there is some thing set out that if someone is disabled they can't be charged anymore for water if they have a meter than someone who doesn't have a meter.

Our total weekly income is £305 per week, .......

I find this incredible in this day and age and think it unfair that people are expected to have nothing to make life a bit more pleasant, no wonder there is so much depression in this country.

Only in this country is £305 per week is considered "to have nothing" and blamed on depression!

I can't begin to tell you what a lovely, warm and fuzzy feeling I'm getting, knowing that the OP considers that her benefits should be higher, to take account of her outgoings, such as Sky, and servicing her loan, and that these should be funded by "the government" - aka the taxpayer. :)

Because DH and I have been prudent in our nearly 50 years together, we have savings that exclude us from subsidies when DH attends his Alzheimers club, so we have to pay £60 each time.

No, we don't have Sky but it's great to know that the tax that DH pays on his pension, will apparently help people who feel it is vital for their wellbeing. This site is a real eye opener!

£305 plus £77 DLA plus a car. Seems to be more than most couples have a week.

Doesn't the govt set benefits at £111.45 (or similar) per couple per week?

    Then HB and CTB

Seems like OP gets £320 - less £116 - so £200 approx per week nearly double what the govt says is needed for a couple to live on.

Yet HB are going to pay them for their sky etc?

Doesn't seem right to me - DLA pays for the expenses due to disability (and isn't included in their figures) so that means that everyone on benefits needs to have an increase.

Also why have WTC set so low if those earning virtually double can claim Housing Benefits

sitting on the confused step here as to why OP is getting the majority of her HB paid

She says she's spending £15 a week on petrol. So she won't be going out very often/far anyway will she?
I can see why she'd want to keep it though, it would cost her an absolute bomb if she had to use her own money ;) to fund it.
