No, don't do that! You've done nothing wrong. Yeah, checking before-hand would have helped - but they should have been clear and upfront abouts fees as well.

I'd leave it up to them to respond about your request for days. If they don't - you can do a non-performing seller report, as collection was available and they aren't communicating, and you've paid by paypal now.

Don't worry, it can be sorted.

You can't do an NPS if you have not been refunded - but if they are not responding, you can do an item not received claim. Don't just chalk it up to experience. They are not giving you any address, which is pretty much a showstopper when they want you to collect - but are keeping your money when you are obviously not going to follow through. It should be one or the other. I've been through some quite deep mental illness; I've been one of the people for whom retail therapy got a bit out of hand, and I know it's tempting just to write money off. But you need to stand up for your rights in this - it will help your self-worth if you assert yourself. It's money or item - not neither.

People preying on the vulnerable are [fill in the blanks]. I feel the seller deliberately left the costs vague in order to lay a trap for the unwary; someone who was interested in their customers' satisfaction would have put 'delivery for mileage xxp/mile plus van hire of £yyy' - this is what sellers tend to do if they think their charges are exorbitant but they don't want to put people off.

I would have checked first - as would some other people here - but I can also see how it was in the seller's interests to be vague - which is unacceptable when you are selling at a distance and a buyer is committed when they win the item. It's sharp practice at best.

I've had a bid on Anyvan to deliver it for £19, and after being in touch with them and the seller it's being picked up and delivered on Sunday. So fingers crossed it's all sorted.

Thanks so much for all your help!

On a positive note, I'd never heard of Anyvan, but it was so easy to use I'm glad I've found it. I'll make sure in future though that I contact sellers before bidding to make sure they're ok with me using a courier.

Good stuff. I hope things go smoothly. Meanwhile everyone else is aware of this service :).

  • Thats great, Ames, and glad you stuck to your guns and were not intimidated by it all in the end. Anyvan are a very useful service and operate throughout the UK, makes delivery of big items relatively easy and inexpensive.

Perhaps if there is a list of good courier services around they should be added to it ASAP.

Well I'm now the owner of a (very dirty) bookcase. The couriers were fab.

So, now it comes to feedback. I'm tempted to give them a neg and 4 postage stars (I'd like to give three, but since it was partly my fault that seems a bit mean), but I don't know if that's too low?

  • Sorry - why the neg?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

    The feedback is your business.

If the item is dirty, then I would be tempted to leave non-positive, but you may want to take it up with the seller before you leave feedback.
