You can mention it in the feedback. It's factual and relevant.

It's factual and relevant that the OP has stated they should have contacted them about it and agreed the price before bidding.

To answer your original Q, I'd say 45p a mile is reasonable. That's what HMRC think anyway. So for a 40 mile round trip (assuming you're 20 miles away) £18 would be a reasonable charge.

Thanks everyone. I've paid by paypal and asked for their address and a list of times when it would be convenient to collect so that I can arrange a courier.

Next time I'll buy new from Argos and hire a handyman to put it together.

Are you sure your courier is happy to take something unpackaged? Is your seller happy to have a courier collect? We have had threads before with problems after buyers arrange carriage and generally advise sellers not to allow this.

I put a link to the eBay listing when I asked for quotes on anyvan so they should realise it's unpackaged. I'll make sure when I book them.

How many times should I ask for the sellers address before giving up on the whole thing? They replied to last night's question with 'are you collecting now then'. But didn't give the address as requested, nor any times the courier can collect.

That's not what my post was about though was it?
It was in answer to "you can't mention it in feedback". You can.

To be fair - if I sell collection only no way am I waiting in for a courier and packing it up for people unless they pay me heavily for my time. Unless they mention that they will stay in for a courier in the listing it's generally bad form to expect that the buyer automatically accepts that they will have to label and pack something up for a courier, let alone stay in all day for one to arrive.

Do you not know anyone with a car at all?

Bluddy ell - I used to walk to Wakey from Leeds when I was a kid. With a stone of spuds in a bag. Them were the days.

I'm confused now, people on this thread recommended getting my own courier to collect it and now say that's the wrong thing to do. I didn't think that it would be so bad to organise one to pick up on a day of their convenience as I don't see the difference between that and them telling me that they'll be in all day on xyz day for me to collect.

Sambucus Nigra, I don't know anyone with a car except my dad and sister who live in Scarborough and wont lift a finger to help me unless they're getting something out of it. I'm extremely isolated due to severe mental illness and all the other people I 'know' are professionals who are paid to work with me.

I think I'm just going to ask them to keep my payment and relist the item for someone else to buy, and consider it the cost of learning a lesson.
