I don't think they're trying it on, in the first email they said something about not being able to use the car as planned because of child seats.

I'll have a look at Hermes.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I'm not sure that Hermes will deliver furniture will they? It's not flat packed, but built, so it's bigger than the dimensions stated for their standard delivery.

Child seats usually come out of cars!

This sounds just like trying it on to me...

Even if they are trying it on though there's not much I can do really is there. I guess I shouldn't have told them that I have no way of collecting it as they've got me over a barrell really.

    Oh well, lesson learned.

It's a tall Ikea billy bookcase, so 202x28x80.

  • If it's an Ikea one, then it can be fairly easily dismantled for collection and will fit in most cars. It can then be put back together the other end just as well. I sold two similar a couple of years ago and dismantled them for the buyer first. He had an Astra and managed it so no reason why the seller can't do the same. Or, if you have a normal car or a friend with a normal car you could pay them the petrol money and a bit extra. Would still be cheaper than £30!

I don't have a car or know anyone who'd help. My sister only has a Colt.

They could ship it for less than a tenner. Loads of couriers about.
Pay via paypal, then you can't get a strike. Then negotiate.
Might not get a strike but do not have the item either!
Have you tried sending an assembled bookcase for less than a tenner?
