That was a really interesting read! I work for Tesco and although I am an avid user of coupons and of gaining extra points- I do use them legitimatly, otherwise I really am shooting myself in the foot. He found a loop hole but was way too greedy, he must have known it would get flagged up! It something I worry about but i'm doing everything legitimatly e.g buying the product and not using out of date ones. Thanks OP was a great read!
    :rudolf: I love xmas!
  • I know that with maunfacturers coupons you actually do have to buy the product but if I bought a nivea product for about £1.50 but I had a £5 off Nivea voucher would the sa not question it?? would i be in my rights to say that i have bought the product so they should accept the coupon?? sorry to sound 'thick'!!

You do NOT have to buy the product- that is the point of lots of the threads on this board. Most Tesco's follow Tesco policy of accepting 10% (or often more) of a sale in coupons when you may NOT have bought the product. They usually only accept one og each kind per shop.
To take an example from the newspaper thread recently- there was a token for £4.50 off of a book which Tesco stock. People bought multiple copies of the paper and then used the coupon to take money of other shopping in Tesco. With a large coupon it would be wise to use it on a big shop.;)

A much more detailed version of the story here:

He also bought 750 of the Birds Eye Beef in Gravy over a 3 day period! Sounds like he was a typical MSE-er. Wonder if he bagged any Xboxes?

Funny how the authorities sat up and took notice of Tesco when they reported this. Shame the authorities do absolutely f*** all when hundreds of consumers complain to them about Tesco's illegal overcharging.

Hello mate, nice to see you still around, I remember the "beef in gravy"......possibly still got some hidden at the bottom of the (free) beef freezer.....

The change in policy from R&R to DtD, possibly means that not so many overcharges are reported, which makes Tesco look as they've improved things, rather than just cover it up........
    Couponing....."every little hurts"

Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.

In my local Tesco and Morrisons stores they actually check the receipts to see if you have bought the product - I guess the best thing would be to find the cheapest manufacturers product and then use the rest off my shopping..

    Thanks for your reply!!X

154 transactions in two months...that's more than 2 every single day...

and 750 ready meals in 3 days....the size of the trolley alone he's not exactly hidding,

isn't it a bit odd they didn't question him in tesco ?
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

Yes but no doubt Sir Tel has friends in high places. Look at teh current cash for peerages fiasco. These big boys are often the biggest scammers of the lot but usually buffered by expensive barristers and a host of minions who can shoulder much blame!!!

Not many journalists etc willing to shout about the overcharging on customers behalf it seems. Look how the X-Box story was reported - pure sensationalism as if everyone complaining of being overcharged is a "consumer activist".

No mention of the continuing mass overcharging of customers on numerous grocery items on a daily basis. No mention of the common practice of removal of shelf prices and deliberate overcharing which often continues once an overcharge has been brought to their attention.
Mr. T - Stop overcharging your customers.
    Bring back consumer confidence.
