Too Hot Curry

  • Hi I always find adding sugar or yoghurt cools it down nicely
  • Yoghurt and chutney are good ideas and should work. You could also add some diced boiled potatoes to your portion or a tin of butterbeans or canellini beans and let hubby eat it as it was, seeing as he likes it..

Another thing which should help, is to sprinke your portion with desicated coconut or chopped up tomatoes.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

    Hi Linda,

I add yoghurt or a tin of tomatoes. There's an earlier thread with mored advice, I'll have a hunt for it and merge your thread with it later to keep the advice in one place.

If its that hot yogurt stirred as served would cool it down.
cucumber and yogurt raita is good for cooling down your mouth too.

Could you batch cook so that the sauce is spread over a bigger quantity?
  • Creamed coconut also cools a curry down to an eatable temperature (also can thicken it a bit so you might need to adjust the liquid)

Like Welshbookworm, I would suggest coconut cream. If I don't realise how hot something is until its already on the plate ( :O ) I add some sweet chutney, salad and avocado to the plate :)
Love and compassion to all x
  • I find that if I leave a curry until the next day, not only does it taste much better but the heat "mellows", so that what I thought was too hot one day turns out to be just right the next.

Another tip whilst eating hot curries is to have a glass of milk with it - water makes the heat worse but milk takes it away :)

I use mango chutney to cool a curry :)
  • Mix some natural yogurt with fresh mint and cucumber and swirl it through. Have some on the side to add as you eat too, yum
