Not enough postage when something gets to the buyer

I'm also wondering how you managed to pay for large letter with a second class stamp alone, unless you mean you used two."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Ah - you used two 2nd stamps to pay for first? Thanks for clarifying."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I had a similar experience but the recipient refused to pay so the item was returned to me with 'undelivered' stickers all over it. I was able to take it along to the PO with my proof of posting. The postmaster agreed that as I had proof of posting the stamp must have come adrift so he restamped it gave me another POP and it was successfully resent.
I'm careful to always keep POP and write a note of the item on the top so it is easily identifyable in case of a problem.

I bought a set of armour once, reproduction Saxon (ish) so leather and metal but very very heavy and in a huge packing case.
RM lost it for almost 3 months, even they thought it was amusing. It eventually turned up , the box was tatty, had lots of odd marks n it, but both the address and the return address were clearly showing. I refunded the compensation money and they gave me £10 for the inconvenience.
I feel bad now. I ordered a huge City lego set a while back which never arrived, and I kind of assumed that the seller just never sent it (it was an eBay bargain) because how could Royal Mail lose a box that size...:oThey deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
Another time before I used to pre stamp my items I took a large bag to the post office and they marked in pen on the packets what the postage was, gave me the bill and my COP and told me they would stick the stamps on later when they were less busy. They forgot to add the stamps soothe whole lot arrived to be paid for.
Surprisingly some were actually delivered! But most had a charge on them, I refunded all my buyers and phoned RM and they allowed me to take scans of the COP and unpaid chage notes to the sorting office to be 'confirmed' and later paid me out in full with apologies. As for the general issue, OP - it's surprising I know, but postage can fall off, incompetence happens. If you definitely paid the right price, then claim for it. It's like delivery - if RM lose an item, you remain liable despite the fact that it's their fault (the buyer has not paid RM for delivery of the item, they paid you). RM have failed you in turn, so you should claim. In my case it was my own fault, but in yours there will have been clear evidence you paid the right price at the till.
When this happened to me, the seller took the receipt to the post office he'd sent it from and they sorted it out. They must have contacted my local sorting office because, when I went to collect the parcel, they waived the charges.0 -
That sounds pretty efficient service. Well done them :T."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
