Don't most cards nowadays tell you on the back what size category they are?

Certainty they do in Card Factory - but I don't get cards elsewhere so can't speak for other places

Wouldn't you just love to be paula's mum? Big card, but couldn't be mithered about the postage.

Did you post your card in Smiths?

NOT by alienating those who send greetings cards by upping the price by an average of 70%.

    so no answers.
just wa wa wa,its not fair, stomp stomp stomp.
where do you get an average of 70%?
that would raise a 1st class stamp from 60p to £1.02
    a large letter costs 90p
So buy your figures, many cards cost moe than £1.02 to send?
So you can see why the handling costs would be an issue

answers are from the people who can justify their cool £350000 bonus by charging a 200% markup on their handling fee all because of 7p.

You sound so in love with their service, is it because you can get away with adding £5 on to the cost of selling a poster on eBay and calling it P&P?

    I'm getting muddled now.

You got the postage wrong and blame Royal mail with some peculiar percentage increases in postage. Very few other people seem to struggle with the concept of letter v large letter. Then you add something about charging £5 for a poster selling on eBay- where did that come in to this?

You got the letter size wrong, ok it is a bit embarrassing but it happens. I started a thread a few days ao to say I had managed to seriously muck up my postage on eBay, yes I was cross at myself and felt a bit silly but it was my fault, I didn't blame RM.

If you really can't manage the sizing, buy the plastic thingy that measures letters and large letters, or take your stuff to s post office.

It's hardly a service when 46p is not enough to get a pink Mother's Day card a few miles down the road by the next morning......

Well, it doesn't just go down the road. It would probably go several miles in the opposite direction to the sorting office, then the DO, then the postman has to walk round the route, and at every stage along the way people are expecting pay - and pay rises due to cost of living increases. Before you go ranting at bonuses just think of the smaller people down the chain who need a living wage from a loss-making company. Just like people often forget charity workers don't work for free when they begrudge charities admin costs, postmen and women don't get telephone number salaries, post offices are closing from lack of business, things need to be paid for including your little card.

If it is so close I would personally hand-deliver it. I enjoy a good walk, particularly if there is an object in sight such as a visit to a relative - the bus fare would probably cost more but possibly if you drive the petrol might not.

It's your prerogative not to use the postal service - I don't blame you, 60p is a bit steep just to send something like a card which I'd probably rather hand over in person anyway - but unfortunately inflation happens. RM made a loss so they had to increase prices. There's not much I post out now except eBay items and a few thank-you letters - the drop in the volume of ordinary post like that may account for the rise in a first class letter because - simply put - reduced volume increases the cost of each individual item going through the PO.

As for the general issue, OP - it's surprising I know, but postage can fall off, incompetence happens. If you definitely paid the right price, then claim for it. It's like delivery - if RM lose an item, you remain liable despite the fact that it's their fault (the buyer has not paid RM for delivery of the item, they paid you). RM have failed you in turn, so you should claim. In my case it was my own fault, but in yours there will have been clear evidence you paid the right price at the till.

On a plastic outer bag neither the pre glued or the lick yourself stamps stay on. I always tape some paper onto the envelope and leave enough not covered with sellotape to stick my stamps on so they don't fall off.

Yes, but it was a paper envelope with bubble wrap lining. No dog-eared corners or anything.

Any number of things could have happened - RM would have still been totally liable so you could have claimed had something gone wrong.

Someone on the official forums said RM have lost a bed in the post before; if they can lose a bed, their machines could rip a label off a package with surprising ease.
