As I have not been asked on the application form and if they don't ask me at interview then I have not been dishonest.
I am just really frightened of me being rejected because I am disabled.:beer:0 -

As long as it id just lifting small things like chairs and tables, I will be fine.
If you can lift chairs and tables I am not surprised that you have not received as much disabled support at Uni as you would have liked ...perhaps they did not realise!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes

It is meant to involve setting up meeting rooms, which I take to be chairs, tables, maybe flipchart, laptops all of which I can do, but if it got bigger than that then it might be a problem.:beer:0 -

I am not especially physically weak and I can lift light stuff over a short distance that is on the flat.:beer:0 -

I worry because I do not want to miss out a job because I am disabled.
Really a job that involves any lifting is probably not the best for me, but I do want this job and I have to try and get over one element I can manage but is not ideal.:beer:0 -
Phil, stop the what ifs? We could all what if all day about everything. What if it's going to rain? What if my car runs out of petrol? What if I get bird flu? I do understand you're the anxious type, butttttt if I can do it, you can. I hadn't worked for four years (So had a four year absense to explain that wasn't due to kids), there was 6,500 apply (New store), I have a then 10 year history of mental illness (Serious, severely affecting everything) & I had to do a group interview with 11 other people before the 1to1 .. i'm terrified of group situations, I had the what if i'm not dressed as well as them? What if i'm too fat/not good enough etc etc buttttttt that's what everyone gets to some degree & we have to face it or we stay in one place & never do anything or move on. You can do it Phil just go one step at a time, hell you got into uni, I couldn't do that, nor could many. Think of the next step when it's time. Your disability isn't your fault, you can do what you can do, simple as, I can't see it putting you on unemployment for life.
Yanno I don't think the disability is the issue, or the uniform, or the type of job. IMO I think it's a confidence issue & you're looking for reasons to not go for it. Don't put yourself down, you can do it, they won't discrimminate if you believe you can do the job. After all if you don't believe in yourself, they won't! Go get a confidence self help book, a Paul McKenna relaxation disc, write a positive list of things about you, do Yoga, but don't let it stop you, look at Jane Tomlinson & see what she's achieved despite terminal cancer.0 -

Y'know, my other advice aside, I'm sure health and safety regulations would play some part if you had a job involving moving heavy items...?
Cottoned on to MSE end July06 - I have seen the light!!!
[blah blah blah} the thing is, if I'm so b***dy brilliant, why am I still broke?

I just do not think I can pipe up at interview this disability thing as it seems a huge negative.:beer:0

Phil, why start a thread to ask when to declare a disability if you have no intentions of doing so? It makes me mad that the fact you can't lift x amount of weight, have bad legs or whatever is becoming an excuse. It's not a huge negative, go in, make eye contact, smile & say Hi!! & that's what they'll remember NOT ooo remember his leg etc
In fact, I doubt most employers give a toss as long as you can do the job, they'll be more likely to want to know about qualifications, what you can bring to the company etc. How do you know your interviewer won't be disabled? S/he may well be. What makes you so sure they'll see it as a negative?
A negative is more likely to be criminal record, scruffy, bad breath, no interest/nothing to say, no relevant, asked for experience, face tattoo's etc I think you'd be the least of their concerns if you can do the job. All they'll probably want to know is about time off relating to it & how they can help/anything you'd need
Anyway you'll never know because you seem adamant you can't work due to it. Funny that i've been in jobs & have seen people in jobs with disability for all sorts of companys. Now, do you WANT to work? If you're that worried contact somewhere like Remploy who help people with disability to remain in/get work. More research (CAB/Remploy etc) less threads on topics you've decided on!0
