I have got an email today asking me what my disability is and which job I have applied for. Should I tell them all that at this stage when I have not even got an interview offer? I am bit worried because I have rung up and told them my concerns about the application form that if I give them my details now that it might damage my chances of an interview.

they are probably asking so they can make any reasonable adjustments for you at interview.

if you don't tell them, it'll damage your chances more.

I hope you are right, but the deadline for applying has not passed yet so I doubt I will have been shortlisted yet.

They may be a company truly committed to diversity, who will shortlist disabled people automatically - tell them!

I have been offered a pre interview interview to talk about disabled access and if the job is suitable for a disabled person. I do not know what to be made of it.

Though it's "a pre interview" be prepared as though it were simply "an interview".

Check the job description to see where you think they might need to make adjustments for you. Just because they would need to make adjustments doesn't mean you won't get the job. I'm sure you know that if they turned you down just because of a need to make adjustments, that would be unfair discrimination.

However, what is more important, is to look at the positives of what you can do for them (not what they can do for you).

I plan to ask lots of questions and get a good understand of their beliefs and culture as that will certainly be most useful for an second interview.

I am really dying for this job and I am going to go as far as is humanly possible to get it.

  • You should declare disabilitys either before job contract signed if not prior to this at interviews if getting to venue for interview is not an issue, or doing the job its self.

    But

Going by your other post that is now locked, I have to say I dont think you have a hope in hell. 3 phone calls and a few emails, while you were well aware the manager was away on leave would seriously hack anybody off, let alone the admin guy who questioned your emails for verification and who is acting as the go between. The way you have come across is nothing short of rude, inconsiderate, impatient, short sighted, and really not suitiable for employment given your lack of judgment with this case.

You need some serious people/communication skills to work on.

I have got a result anyway. They sorry confusion has happened but due to so many people being on leave people have been covering outside their normal working jobs and so have not dealt with me correctly. However, after Easter they should be able to give me completely full and accurate assistance.

So it looks like I should be okay and no one really knew what the other was on about and so I should get it sorted out instead of all this confusion and upset it is causing.
