I'm finding it hard to believe anyone is coming out in support for the Post Office employee. This type of situation is standard service in post offices across the land. Really can't be sure of the reasons behind it, but counter staff generally are hell bent on making the visit, for whatever purpose, as mind numbing as they can for their ' customers '. I think postmen have a very similar attidude in many cases. Park where you fancy in a street, nowhere near the curb and on a bend is always favourite. Then dump a load of elastic bands down the road when you're done.

Looks like i am the only one with a brilliant post office, can't fault it.

If you think that is "gross incompetence" then you need to get out more!

Part of your job is to hand over parcels on production of valid ID.

You don't know what constitutes valid ID.

I call that gross incompetence. (With mitigating circumstances as pointed out by Goater.)

Don't forget, the OP wasn't trying to get her sacked, or get compensation. He was just having a justifiable vent about being messed about by someone who did not know her job properly.

You can give yourself a pat on the back for being a smug twit who is so submissive to authority that she regularly goes to unnecessary lengths to perform simple tasks just in case someone exceeds their authority in which case you can meekly comply.

But it's nothing to boast about.

Don't you mean 'really cannot be arzed to make a complete twonk of themselves in public, so picks up a simple form of identification (which in my last job would have been my ID card instead) - which is about as taxing as picking up the card that was posted through the door - and therefore doesn't encounter problems that really are too unimportant to spike the blood pressure over?'.

Life really is too short to be angry at everything. It feels even shorter (and wasted) when the only way somebody feels alive is to be in a confrontation of some kind in the style of the barely-concealed hysteria of Basil Fawlty or Tony Hancock?

(and if I do meet one of those unnecessary jobsworths, can you imagine how irritated they are when, instead of entertaining themselves with a purple faced office drudge with hypertension, they are presented with exactly what they demand?).

I could be dead in five years. Or ten, twenty or thirty. Why would I want to spend my time raging against stuff that frankly, is about as unimportant as it is possible to get?
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

    Just how stupid are you?

He DID pick up a valid form of identification.

Much as I'm sure you are delighted with your smug, self satisfied little rant, above, if you gave the matter some thought you would realise that you are not immune to being affected by idiots who don't know their job because if they make up a new rule there's a very good chance you will not have foreseen this and still get caught out.

Quite honestly, I think you're full of it.

I find it very hard to believe that if someone wasted your time because they effectively made up a non-existent rule you would never say a word to anyone.

For some reason some people seem to have such a self satisfied attitude that they believe they are immune to ever getting caught out or annoyed and get their panties in a bunch because someone else has the temerity to complain

And it's usually this type of person who whines the loudest when they do eventually get caught. ;)

Have you considered counselling for your anger management problems?

Or perhaps your GP could prescribe some propranolol for your blood pressure. It can have negative effects upon maintaining erections, so I hear, but I suspect that probably isn't really working for you already. So nothing lost by trying.

I'm not in the least angry.

It's just that some people are too dense to actually read the post that describes the original problem and make fools of themselves telling people that they should do what they actually already did.

So I try and make it easy for them by using short bright words they can easily understand.

Of course, when they realise how stupid they've been they often try and deflect attention by spurious comments about other people's 'anger'.

Still, if it makes you feel better. :D

Probably not, just someone who never seems to understand that their opinion isn't the only one that is allowed on these boards and they often ending up throwing insults about rather than engaging in a reasonable debate.

Keeping it low key often doesn't work for people who are too stupid to read and comprehend OP's.

You need to do something to jolt them into reading and understanding things properly.
