I think you do have to ask permission to fit a shower, even though ultimately, the ha will benefit. :rotfl:I'm pretty sure a shower is cheaper than a bath. You only have to take one look at my gas bill.
Dya know, it takes alot of courage to keep a diary and openly state you are on benefits. I don't care what anyone thinks anymore, tbh. It is, as it is.
Back laters xx
It shouldnt have to take courage to admit to needing benefits at the age of 51 having worked since I was 16, except from 1981-1982 after I graduated. I volunteered in a womens refuge and they employed me after a year.
It P***es me off that ANYONE has the right to judge me because I am currently reliant on the state. We may be better off than some working households, but we are on a quarter of what we were on till working precipitated another catastrophic episode.
This is MY diary, I expect visitors to be supportive, thats the rules of this board.... anyone with an opinion or prejudice against people on benefit has ample places to express their bile elsewhere on this site. OOPs that was a bit strident :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Thanks for joining in....

Hello! Lovely new diary!
As promised here I am, all subscribed up and ready to join in.
I don't know anything about social housing, I'm afraid, so I can't give any advice. Lost and Nervous' advice seems very sensible, I'd give a letter a try, you've lost nothing if they say no but will gain if they say yes. Definitely, taking a normal [not power] shower is cheaper than having a bath.
I'm looking for full time work at the moment, not easy, so I claim jsa and get council tax benefit. I don't actually get any money from the job centre as I prefer to work 15.5 hours a week and earn it myself. I only get my NI stamp from them. I find the whole benefits thing mystifying and confusing
Agreed its mystifying and arcane. You might think it was deliberately set up that way....
I am unfortunately in the invidious position that if I started work, any work at the moment, not only is it likely to end in disaster for my employer quite quickly, but I am unlikely to remain well. It was repeatedly rushing back to work that was eventually to blame for me becoming very psychotic and ending up homeless and destitute in Scotland. This time I owe it to myself and my family to get well first.
I do have every intention of returning to gainful employment - meanwhile I have applied to do some voluntary work supporting young families - bit like "rent a nana". I like small children and they like me, they are very good for my mental health.
I am toying with getting a cat....maybe two....
and fantasising of having a horse again....
thanks for coming by make yourself at home
Its grand that you are working and I know that you wont be underemployed for very long. Have you thought of applying your skills to those organisations that are currently contracted to help the likes of us get back to work. I think you would be very good at it, and very humane and compassionate too. They are always advertising and it seems to be a growth market - you could be a poacher turned gamekeeper .... sort of
any ways rambling - reaches for coffee

recoverydust, good for you for trying by posting a diary.
it takes courage and the first step is the hardest.
I can't promise to post much, as very busy these days, but I do check in from time to time, usually with a thanks button.
as for knocks at 2am.... we used to have prostitutes working at the bottom of our road, it took me a few months to register that fact, and the fact I had total strangers.... all men.... knocking my door with their address written on it and I kept telling them there was no such number! :rotfl:
When I finally realised, I put a note through their door telling them to instruct their customers better!
Luckily they moved after a police incidentpeace is back.

anyway, here for free pastries......
seriously have you looked at the old style thread?
they tell you about cooking from scratch, how to build a store cupboard and you need to take a look at things like approved foods and many other similiar companies, where you can buy food cheaply.
Use charity shops for clothes (I can't find any with clothes that fit me... so tend not to buy any), use freecycle and freegle (yes ani, me again with freecycle) for things to help you around the house, ie cookers/washing machines/pots and pans etc.

I can't find it but I had a link to a recipe thread created, tried and tested by msers, didn't work for everyone but you could take what you wanted out of it.0 -
yeah we have complained to the council anti social behaviour bod, but its not easy for them to evict, and I dont want them to be homeless - well the dealer i want banged up, hes mean to his dog and his missis too and makes a lot of noise.
the druggies are really pathetic shadows who lurk about, and knock the door asking for tobacco or foil or a lend till monday.... initially we were accommodating, and fair enough we got the money back, but we had to draw a line, they were three or four times a day.
Twice I have phoned the police when a customer has come here, realised their mistake and gone upstairs... they came round to tell me they knew all about it.... lol
Thanks aesop for recognising the courage I have thought hard about it, but I need to sort this out - whatever this turns out to be... I need to deeply consider the relationship between me and money and bipolar.
A long time ago in a far away place I sold a house and spent an awesome amount of money in not very long and have NOT ONE THING to show for it except a few mad memories and some shockingly "good" times... The rest of the time I am so paranoid about money that if DH comes home with too many whoopsied lots of bread at 10p a time I imagine that we will be desititute in weeks. It really is disproportionate.
Its so hard to talk about money in real terms with real life people, and its hard to talk about mental health in spite of all the anti stigma stuff.
So here it is.... I cant be the only one who has psychological issues with money and I havent seen it much discussed.

You are right, you are not the only one with psychological issues with money but I think you will find very few people will post about it,
1) they don't acknowledge it exists
2) worried about trolls and forum police
3) worried about the righteous brigade
but we are here to support you and we will do our very best.0 -
