I know this has been posted before, but I wanted to efresh old and new members memories.
Freecycle is a yahoo based recycling forum, you post anything you want or anything you have to offer.
I've found this invaluable as I'm currently sorting out my house before I hopefully move.
Have a look for local groups in your area.

Thanks

The moderators on freecyle have first choice of all offers. anything they dont want they post for the members to see. If you post an offer you get lots of people saying there a charity and asking for it. Lots of people apply for offers and sell them on. But you might get lucky.GONE ENGLAND0

anything i cant sell on ebay goes on freecycle. i've had loads of cracking stuff from freecycle members from stair gates to a leather work bag, books to tv's. it's also good for requesting weird and unusual items.
dont agree that mods get first dibs on items at all, and even if they did, they don't et paid for doing it so i don't blame them for trying for all the time they spend at all different hours of the day.

The freecycles groups I belong to only moderate posts from newbies until they get the hang of the system, usually about a month, or anyone who doesn't adhere to the simple rules after a reminder. So the mods certainly don't get first choice, they have to offer and request the same as anyone else.
I've been a member of one 3000+ group for 13 months, another for 8 months, and have never had anyone tell me they're a charity, or heard of it being said to other members. If it happened on a regular basis it's easy enough to check if the asker is genuine.
Goods can get sold on, the rule is that the asker tells the donor on first contact if that's what they intend. Most won't mind as it's better than the item going to landfill. I've done it myself when taking a 'job lot' which included a couple of items I didn't want. The donor was only too happy to let me have the goods on that understanding, though her daughter says she's going to all the local car boots this Spring until she gets her fluffy dice back!
Run following the few simple rules, as all the groups I know of are, freecycle is one of the best inventions since sliced bread.
(Wonder what was the best invention before sliced bread? :rotfl: )0 -

joined two days ago and have had loads of emails offering stuff, and a fair few asking. I think its great, even if some one sells stuff on it still stops it getting dumped for a while at least:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o

try https://www.efreeko.co.uk - its a smaller site but still has some good items up wanted and free to get. You can get a weekly email of the new items. If you don't have something nice to say don't bother saying anything at all.0

I have had nothing but problems with one of my local groups. I signed up about a year ago and as I really don't need much I get the emails in digest format. The problem with this is that when you do see an item you want, it is normally already gone. It seems on my group that an item goes up for offer and then an hour later it's gone.
I have only ever posted to my group twice, both wanted messages. My post from last week was rejected by the moderator as he said I was asking for a high value item (second hand dyson) and that instead of asking for a specific brand, I should have just asked for a vaccum cleaner. The email I recieved was not the friendliest, basically telling me if I don't like their decision to not post my message, to go elsewhere and buy the desired item breand new. I thought the idea was to keep things out of landfills
I emailed back and set the record straight. I do not want a Dyson to sell it on, I want one because my son has many health problems including alergies and dysons are recommended by allergyuk. I have now been given the ok to re-post my message, but after all the aggro, I am not really sure I can be bothered.
I am sure that Freecycle is wonderful, perhaps better for those offering than those who want something specific. Perhaps I will stick to ebay (not that I have the money for a Dyson with HEPA)0 -
I think freecycle is great. Have signed up to my local group and asked for a Sunday Times Magazine & Boots no7 vouchers & have 1 voucher & 2 magazines coming!0

Have given loads of stuff to a good home and also bagged quite a few bargains.
E.g DS broke our Brita water jug but becasue we have loads of classic cartridge filters left I can't just go to Tesco and buy a new one (filter's have changed) so asked if anyone had one and got offered three!!!0
