We have spent a winter without heating at all, no hot water other than out of the kettle, in an old and draughty stone house - it's doable, but the children might never forgive me .... things are looking up now, we have a fire AND wood to burn.:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o

Keep your eyes down and peeled as you walk around!
Most lucrative tend to be the "penny (or 10p!) falls type of machine...where the player scoops up their winnings...and often leaves a 10p (or 3!) behind in the dish. Too distracted feeding winnings back into machine I guess!
Great fun on a rainy day at the seaside! CB2X
My kids and I do this all the time, we call it the 2p game the idea is that you go round all the arcades looking for money instead of spending it and try to get enough to buy yourself an icecream at the end of it as the prize.Loving the dtd thread. x0 -
Whilst some of the posts on hear have been light hearted I wondered reading others if some people had no qualms or scruples at all as some ideas seemed to be bordering on theft. This one takes the biscuit however (and the loose change presumably)
, she said, "Take them, they just lie there for a day and then I throw them out" What a waste.
I have saved £198.75 in coupons at the shops (grocery ones) and I found a tenner in the street last night, my eyes almost jumped out of my head ! Thats just since 1st May this year.:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o

When I am really skint I suggest to my 13 year old that he brings all his mates round for the afternoon to jump on the trampolene for a few hours, then sit in the living room and watch Dr Who- then when the coast is clear i pick up all the loose change from around the trampolene and down the back of the sofa (have been doing this for a couple of months and have found cash EVERY time- lowest 2p, highest £4.85). Alternatively I ask him to invite his friends to McDonalds for tea, as long as they bring their own money for food- I then take all the money off them, pretend to take their orders and queue up for the food, return with big tray off stuff purchased using my BOGOF and money off voulchers saying that what they really asked for is off menu. All food eaten with gusto, I pocket the difference, everyone is happy.0

Woodyrocks - I agree, but we were lucky and didn't fall ill. It wasn't on purpose, I had no money to pay the bills, so it was a choice of burn what fuel we could find, no lights and cook what food I could afford over the stove or.... well, no other choice really. Plus, burning wet wood is not easy! We had a very wet winter that year so many days the stove couldn't be lit either. Not complaining, just letting you know that I wouldn't willingly have done that! Very glad not to be in such tight situation now. Being selfemployed = no benefits, at all, ever, it seemed then. Doesn't seem much better now
 Not sure why, I paid enough tax!! :rotfl:
Midwife_twinkie, pardon me for saying this, but not long after eslt posted the one you [and everyone else!] objected to, he did say that he'd come to his senses and apologised - he even made it up to his son as best as he could. I think he's learnt his lesson! We've probably all done things to make us blush when we were off our heads with worry. I, obviously, see above paragraph!, have .....If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0 -
Hey Draig...I hear you, sometimes we are forced to do these things. I don't often post in here because I don't feel like I am 'extreme' enough for the hardcore heads in here but I do know of weeks when Woody and I have eaten nothing but jacket potatoes and packet noodles - that to me is not only extreme but desperate with it :hmm:DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0

Woodyrocks - my position entirely! Don't you find that jacket potato and chips is a bit ... erm.... boring too! Speaking of one week in London when I was a lot younger and an awful lot worse off!! The cold house situation was not one I chose to undertake, ie "extreme moneysaving" it was one I had no choice about. My original comment was meant that one COULD survive very low temperatures - not that I advocated it :rotfl:If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0
